They were kind of a green papery stuff before, from memory.
They seemed pretty good but are nackered now obviously.

Re: New Member RD400C
Does anyone know where I can source exhaust flange gaskets to suit by DG flanges to seal between cylinder and flange? Or perhaps recommend something easy to make them from? Waiting for parts to come from overseas so Peak Rebores can finish the honing etc the will fit it up in a couple weeks when I'm...

Re: New Member RD400C
Thanks everyone.
Really worried about said "chip of aluminium".
Where could it be and what's it likely to do to my engine if I can't find it?
What about pistons such as TKJR, Vertex and Pro-X? Is one 'better' than another? Couldn't find much doing a search.

Re: New Member RD400C
Barrels at the engineers today. Will be getting the pistons from Yambits as the general consensus is that they're ok...?
See image of the cracked piston.
The thought is that a correct run-in procedure was not followed.

Re: New Member RD400C
Thanks again guys. Can I push the friendship and ask where you'd recommend buying parts from? Any to stay away from?
Perhaps recommend a good engineer to bore my cyls?
EPA you mention a complete strip, you mean splitting the crank case, as well?

Re: New Member RD400C
Pulled the head off the noisy cylinder today. Images attached. The marks on the intake side can be felt with my fingers. Link below to Youtube video showing me moving the piston back and forth with my fingers. While I was tinkering I pulled the oil lines off at the carbs and alas, no oil came out no...

Re: New Member RD400C
Nah I didn't do the seat, it was bought pretty much as is.
I'll take the head off on the weekend and have a look. As far as I know it's not using LC pistons.
Appreciate the replies guys wish me luck.

New Member RD400C
Hello all, as title suggests I'm new here. Recently sold an RS250 and upgraded (sure you'll agree) to a lovely RD400C, I believe built by Stankflapper, and a fine job he did. Bike sat for about some months in a showroom until the previous owner gave in to me the poor bloke. Fuel very stale and carbi...
