Re: Carby Body Cleaning.

Don't take it all too personally. You suggested that I am limp-wristed and alluded to me being some rich wanker chequebook restorer. You specifically made a point of stating you were having a go at me personally. How was I supposed to take it? What I found most insulting was that you expressed thes...

Re: Carby Body Cleaning.

But what about those of us who have more sense than money James? I mean, subcontracting a job like cleaning carbs seems (to me anyway) weird, very 21st century. Pretty limp-wristed. Is there anything about restoring a bike that gives you pride of the job well done? By you? Yourself. Or is it just a...

Re: Whatcha Reckon........

If the stanchions are 35mm and the spring caps are retained by circlips, there is a good chance the forks are indeed from an early FZR250 (2KR base model) - there should be brake caliper bosses on the right-hand slider only. I've never dismantled any forks like that, but I think you just have to com...

Re: Carby Body Cleaning.

This is the man I use: http://wetblasting.net/ - there are more photos on the FB page if you follow the link. The process is a very gentle wet bead blasting, followed by burnishing. It gives a nice even semi-lustrous finish which is a little more resistant to corrosion than the normal cast finish. I...

Re: Paintin Exhaust Pipes.

In my experience, some sort of abrasive blasting definitely helps in preparing the surface. However, it won't be much good if the coating isn't suitable. I've also had reasonable results with VHT spray cans, but I have generally found that POR-15 heat paint ( http://www.ppcco.com.au/por15.html ) is ...

Re: Yamaha making RDLC tanks

That's over double what they used to cost... ouch indeed. ...and then some! I remember buying a brand new genuine painted (white with two-tone blue) RD-LC tank from a Yamaha dealer in 1992-93...$250 8O . I think those Y's Gear tanks have been around for a while ( http://www.2strokesdownunder.com/vi...

Re: SDR200

Thanks everyone. That front brake must work well. Chain looks a little tight though [Peace HAND]️ Have yo had a chance to ride it yet? Yes, the chain does look a little tighter than usual - the specified measurement for chain tension is 15-20mm. The chain is 132 links, which is a bit longer than man...

SDR200

I have practically finished my SDR: http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y485/JamesP001/DSC09181_zps4iugs8qv.jpg http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y485/JamesP001/DSC09179_zpsgmxhd93m.jpg I've posted more details on the DiffrentStrokers forum, as there are a fair few SDR owners among the membership....

Re: What to use for cleaning radiators...?

On checking the shelves at Bunnings, I found a variety of descaling products. However, many of them warned that they were unsuitable for use on aluminium. The one I chose ( http://www.hillmark.com.au/Products/Scalex.aspx ) stated "Avoid prolonged contact with aluminium, brass & copper"...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

... people drill the brass balls out and then US then again, then refit new balls... I've removed the brass balls on a few Mikuni carbs in the past (mostly TM28 and TM28SS). In most cases, this was done to convert the atomiser air supply from "external" to "internal". However, i...

Re: What to use for cleaning radiators...?

Thanks Pkay & BRG. I presume these products are OK for use on aluminium? I will head to Bunnings and have a look what they've got.

Thanks again & regards,
James

What to use for cleaning radiators...?

I've never had a radiator that needed internal cleaning before (as far as I know  ), so what to use? I found some stuff in a local Repco or AutoOne (can't remember which) which was the only such product on offer, so I bought it. When I actually read the instructions (doh!), it is supposed to be...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

you can get braided hoses more local if you want, costs more but will be quicker. I've done this a few times, although not very recently. I went to Earl's at Silverwater and they made up hoses to my specifications while I waited. I got the "normal" braided hose with clear PVC cover, but I...

Re: RZ Top Triple Clamp for Naked Bike

How about a set of these: http://japan.webike.net/products/310973.html ? Or these: http://japan.webike.net/products/1856881.html ? If you want something cheaper (and have free access to a mill) you could make your own, to suit your existing top bridge. There are likely other cheaper options also - h...
