Re: VJMC Rally this weekend

The VJMC rally is on this weekend in Warilla on the NSW south coast. Fri, Sat and Sun but Sat will be the best day with the ride and show on that day. There is also a ride on Sunday. I will be there as a marshall on Saturday on the 3MA and lets hope the weather holds out. http://vjmc.org.au/vjmcoz/...

Re: A theory

Better late than never, but could it be that the RHSide bearing is closer to the oil filled clutch / gearbox and thus the heat build up is not as great as on the other side. Had the reverse problem on mine, but it has the clutch on the LHSide and the right big end failed. My problem more likely due ...

Re: BR8ES VS. BR9ES

Hi Low Flying. Youre on the money. The Lower the number the less likely to foul up. Never have got my head around "Hotter" and "Colder" terminology anyway. Just to confuse matters more, mine uses B9HCS plugs. The "C" seems to denote the champhered end of the plug, thus ...

Re: BR8ES VS. BR9ES

Hi Low flying. From my experience with two strokes and plug heat ranges, the higher the number, the better the performance. But higher number more likely to foul up when cold starting. It.s not an issue for me as plugs can be easily changed when warmed up. As for the "ES" have no idea, but...

Re: 1969 DS6, loss of power at top end

Hi DS69. Nice bike. Have tried to reply before but not sure if message went (I am a bit of a Luddite with computers) Some thoughts from a long time DS6 owner, pardon me if I am telling you the obvious. Blocked exhaust ports / engine pipes. Blocked exhaust baffles. (Already checked) Blocked muffler p...

Re: Stroker Ride Sydney

Hi Antman.

Happy to go for a ride soon. Kangaroo Valley a bit too far for my old bike. (And most probably me)

Am going on the Macquarie Towns rides this weekend.

Re: crank seal wear Yamaha DS6

Hi Graham. Thanks for the tip. Still using supposedly genuine ones. But bought as NOS on Ebay. Never seen teflon coating on them. Original ones from era long before Teflon and assumed the seals (Double sided) would no longer be available from Yamaha. Will look into this. Have found it hard to find a...

Re: crank seal wear Yamaha DS6

Hi 2TInsitiute. Thanks for the advice, will investigate. Thoughts were not going in that direction. The crank was running within manufacturers tolerences (at main bearing journals) when put in motor. Not sure about any seal surface run out. The motor has done a lot of work and is most probably due f...

crank seal wear Yamaha DS6

Have gone through two generator side crank seals in 8 months on my DS6 250cc.

Does anyone have any ideas on cause.
Thrashing bike understood as possible cause but bike used no harder than in past.

Now have checked timing, carby settings and oil supply.

Any comments appreciated.

Re: Yamaha DS6

Hi Tezza. Seem to have internet working. Just had a thought. I bought a full box of chain for the DS6 some time back (50 feet) Let me know if you want some. The chain is alright but I am not in love with the connectors. One broke as I fitted it. They have a 5/8 X 5/16 chain. (Metric equivalent 16mm ...

Re: Yamaha DS6

Hi Tezza. The Blue one looks prettty good. Good luck with the green one . I have not seen this colour in Aust, only in photos of "Street Scrambler" model in US. As for the seat base, mine was rusted as they all are. I patched it up, just welded strips everywhere until it was strong enough....

Re: Yamaha DS6

Hi. There have been crankshaft parts for a DS6 on EBay from a bloke in Fance recently. In my case he was a bit hard to deal with, wanted extra shipping costs after sale at agreed shipping costs to Australia. I think tere are some there now I have two running DS6's and some spare crank parts. Let me ...
