Re: Crankshaft main bearings - operating temperature?

You could point a temperature gun at the surrounding area and get an idea. I can't imagine it getting any hotter than coolant temp down there. That is certainly an idea, but there would still be some guesswork involved. Based on nothing more than a "touch test", I would estimate the tempe...

Crankshaft main bearings - operating temperature?

Anyone care to offer an opinion on the normal or maximum expected operating temperatures of crankshaft main bearings, if the engine is running "correctly"? The reason I want to know is: For many years I have been using crankshaft main bearings with glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide 66 cages...

Old Gold project bike sale...

I already have too many projects and minimal spare time, so what better idea than attending the Old Gold Motorcycles Project Bike Sale Day? For those who couldn't make it, here is a taste of the two-stroke fare on offer: http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y485/JamesP001/DSC05645_zpsn3xmyuje.jpg Fir...

Re: rz 350 carb idetification (31w)

If it is any help to you; the code 31W corresponds to 1984 RD350 for the European market. The frame number range for 31W models is 31K-044101 to 048000. In the absence of further info, I would expect the 31W carb to be similar. However, if earlier RZ/RD-YPVS carbs were stamped 31K, there must be som...

Re: hi from south nsw

Welcome to the forum. Doesn't look like it needs restored to me! I agree - if it is original, don't restore it Rob! They are only original once. In 20 years time, there will be loads (well, comparatively  !) of restored bikes, but hardly any original ones. If it was mine, I would just dismantl...

A nice little earner...?

I don't often look at Gumtree, but it does reveal some bizarre things at times, like this: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/cannington/motorcycles/wanted-someone-to-sync-my-motorcycle-carburettors/1098829560 The advertiser is offering $100,000,000.00 (negotiable!) for someone to synchronise the carbs ...

That is my experience too. Also, if it helps, the range of frame numbers for the 34J model should be:

1983 RZ250K - 34J-000101 to 34J-002000
1984 RZ250L - 34J-002101 to 34J-004000

Re: 2T oils and Fuel ecconomy

...I had some left over Shell VSX oil from MX days and it seemed pretty good. So when I ran out I bought another Litre, and it was bloody terrible. The blue haze is bad enough without bad oil making it worse. Graham, I've used Shell full-synthetic oil from my early days (1988); Sport 2S, which beca...

Re: HELP My Zinc Parts are missing

Sometime in the 1990s my (then) electroplater lost a load of my parts - luckily they were all generic fasteners and easy to replace. Around 2005 another plating firm lost a few of the parts I'd left for plating, but denied all knowledge, saying that they "never lose parts". I use different...

Paul, Here is a scanned article from Scootering Magazine of October 2004 which may interest you. Its a Zundapp Bella - obviously not a Maicoletta, but another German scooter of similar construction from the same era. http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y485/JamesP001/Bella-Yamaha%201a_zpsfoi88yam.jp...

Re: RG250 Mark 1 Dual Sport

I came across a similar bike on this Japanese website: http://monomaniya.web.fc2.com/motorcycl ... /gamma.htm

I'm not sure whether the Japanese one was just a simple front-end-swap, but the Australian version seems to have had more work put in!

I've already posted this on the TZR250 forum, but it will likely be of interest to members of this forum too. Re: LC fuel cap... Anyone with an alloy one?

Jon, I'm pretty sure my old RD250LC (Chassis No.5E1-001567) had an aluminium fuel cap, because I remember drilling a hole in it 8O (c.1990) to try and fix what I thought was a blocked breather. This bike was registered as 1980, but a quick look at my Yamaha Frame Number List 1992 suggests that chass...
