'86 250 YPVS Restore

After standing for 6 weeks over Xmas, I finally went back to have another look at why I couldn't get any pressure in the front brakes. For the record, and anyone else who ends up down this rabbits hole, I had changed the hoses as I thought the old original ones might've been blocked. I purchased a s...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

So I did the mod. All went without a hitch, but I used some hex grub screws instead of the slotted ones, as my Allen keys can undo at a right angle easier. One side was blocked, the other had some gunk in. Now all clean and back on the bike. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170212/1f3f8168f9f1bcfb...

Re: RZ250 / 350 YPVS Ebay

The guy who bought this has just listed it on Ebay 112225386415.
Looks like he's done a good job, and quick too, compared to me.
Nice to see my old bike in such poor condition, be brought up to decent running condition and back on the road for someone to ride.

'86 250 YPVS Restore

Some good info, thanks guys. I did find a helpful pic worth adding here. The grub screw is a good idea. I'll try that mod. Would a tapered rubber bung do the same job or too risky in case it gets sucked into the engine? http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161127/79c31620b9387b6ec15124a2a3968b86.jpg ht...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

The brake lines finally arrived after 6 weeks and a short disappearing act in transit. As always, I was just glad to be getting back to almost finishing the bike, again. So I fit the lines and master cylinder only to find the exact same problem that I couldn't bleed the system, so that was a waste o...

Mine have also deformed and it looks like a child has tried to glue it back on with bitumen. Will update here if I find a source.

Re: Rubber headlight cover for rectangular yamaha 250/350/500 ypvs model

The other items were the dash above the clocks which I've also been looking for. Be a nice Xmas present. We should do a bulk purchase and save on post.

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

Interesting, I'll look for some info on the brass balls mod. I wasn't sure what they did and why they were there. As always - thanks. Once the brake lines show up I'll be almost ready to have it inspected for club rego. I thought the spluttering was the ypvs not turning quick enough to tune the exha...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

I also found an old piston ring inside the collar. I went with the suggestion of a coat hanger and also left the ring in there. Seemed to work ok with the initial test. Took it for a test run and found it doesn't pull smoothly through the rev range. It splutters a bit around 4K up. I'm absolutely su...

Re: Rubber headlight cover for rectangular yamaha 250/350/500 ypvs model

Just thought I'd update this one. I found a company who can do me a 3D mould and then rubber copies of this headlight cover. Thought I'd check with Norbo before placing the order. He advises that he has some made and waiting to be shipped to the uk. There's a hold up with some other items that are b...

'86 250 YPVS Restore

Once everything was rebuilt and a few new items added from partzilla, I start the engine. Starts fine and I even balanced the carb slides and took a nifty video for someone else to watch. Now the engine is running I notice a "tink" sound on the RHS exhaust with each pulse from the combusti...

'86 250 YPVS Restore

Well I never thought I would take this long but this bike just keeps on giving (trouble). I couldn't get the bike to idle properly and once the back brake was fitted I road tested it and also found the bike bogged down while letting the clutch out so I decided to leak test it. The results showed som...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

Good to know for the next one. Just ordered a 3 set for the front from the UK. Have other jobs on the bike I can be getting on with. That rubber seal for the front MC wouldn't fit unless I trim it so I left as is. Can't really test it until the new hoses arrive though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

One other comment on the brake rebuild. I fitted the two rubber seals onto the master cylinder plunger. The seal near the middle looks like it is supposed to seat into a groove cut out on the shaft. My seal was too wide and doesn't drop into the groove. Will this be an issue? Pic shows the groove wh...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

Turns out the washers were there but stuck to the bolt heads so I didn't see them. I fitted the head back on with gasket sealer which I was reluctant to do as the Haines says don't use any sealer. Tested again with the pressure kit and the same problem exists. Think I've narrowed the leak to where t...
