Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

Yes, ordering from the UK or US takes time and is usually in response to something that you need right away to finish a job. I'll try without the paper exhaust gasket. Where do you get OEM gaskets from other than the US. I've read on here where not to buy from but suspect my options are only Europe ...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

Bugger, I was so close. This feels like snakes and ladders. I'll put an order in. Another 10 days wait. Need the paper exhaust gaskets too so I'll get those while I'm at it. Do the 350 ones fit the 250?

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

So I find the cylinder head gasket to be leaking the most. Dropped the fluid, all over the bike and garage floor mostly, it never runs straight down and always finds some part of the frame to run off and miss the bucket. Now I'm back at the gasket in question. The gasket I'm using looks like a three...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

So if D was open and not connected it could've been sucking in too much air for the mix. Thanks for that.

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

By way of an update and to keep the thread alive hopefully until I finish this thing, I'm posting another question. I thought the end was in sight but now realise that to do it right might mean starting from the beginning again. I'm sure someone on here said it was easy.... Anyway, the bike isn't ru...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

I sent A1 an email about the rechrome and some other metal polishing jobs. They didn't respond but simply forwarded it on to Geoff at Bling My Bike which was a bit embarrassing as I'd asked him for a quote too. Luckily I'm happy with Geoff, he's done my engine casings in the past. It's quality work ...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

Hmmm, I got $300 each from trawling the Internet forums. $300 per pair puts it in reach but I'll rebuild them and put them back in as is for now and use the cash elsewhere, saving the rechrome for next time they come out. Good to know though. Ta

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

I've checked out a few now and none of them seem consistent. I'll polish up what I can and clear coat the lot. When it's moving you won't see it that clearly. There is pitting in the chrome on the stanchions but it's above the travel of the fork seals. I'll leave that for now as it looks like about ...

Re: '86 250 YPVS Restore

Now have the front end pulled apart. Brake calipers sent off to the soda blasting man. I'll spray them with calipers spray when clean and I've replaced the seals. Also have the forks out with the intention of replacing the seals and rebuild. First up, I can't work out what the original finish on the...

Re: Let the good times roll

I'm trying to recreate that dullished polished look you speak of. It's a fine line between brushed aluminium and hazy chrome look.

Re: Let the good times roll

I ask because I've just pulled my forks out and wasn't sure of the finish. Polished, painted, powdercoat or just clear coat. I do like the black though.

Re: Let the good times roll

Cheers for that. I've somehow ended up with a 1UA-24730-00. It even has the strap across. Nice to know there's another out there running though. Those mufflers and fork brace are hens teeth! What made you go with black fork sliders?

Re: Let the good times roll

Very nice. I have the same model and year. Would you mind telling me the yam code of the seat you have there? Should be printed underneath. My seat looks the same but is an inch too short.
