RZ250 won't pull under load.

Here's one of those silly ones. Been there before, but this one is annoying me. '83 RZ250. Very original unbodged bike. 1st oversize, all that done recently. new PV stuff, carb cleanout and float valves etc, all the obvious things checked. (mind you I've found mismatched plugs). The thing just won't...

Re: Carby Body Cleaning.

Sorry mate, not meaning to pick a fight! :-) Perhaps I should have used more moderate terminology. Just let's encourage people to DIY if they have the time. Life has taught me that most people can do most things if they try. The 'limited skill-set' is often 'a self-limited skill-set', people can lea...

Re: Carby Body Cleaning.

But what about those of us who have more sense than money James? I mean, subcontracting a job like cleaning carbs seems (to me anyway) weird, very 21st century. Pretty limp-wristed. Is there anything about restoring a bike that gives you pride of the job well done? By you? Yourself. Or is it just ab...

Re: Carby Body Cleaning.

Done loads of those Mikunis and NEVER seen that after a soapy water cleanup. Weird.

Re: Carby Body Cleaning.

Blitz works well, then try soap pads like Brillo and water.

Re: The "Netflix Tax"

Why is it being called "Netflix Tax" ? - What's Netflix got to do with it? It's just GST being charged on cheaper items,- under $1000. Yes it stinks, but it's the Liberal government imposing this new tax. (Remember " no new taxes") ?! And Gerry Harvey lost his Pom status long ago...

Re: Redeemable?

Surely someone in Sydney must be able to save at least one of these cranks... I'd have one but I'm in Melbourne, postage costs would be hard for me.

Re: Redeemable?

All depends on how deep the rust pitting is. Gear pinions are usually case-hardened, and if the pitting is deep it might be through the case hardening, in which case only usable in desperation. Run a wire wheel over the gear teeth, sometimes rust like that can be shallower than it looks. (And if it ...

Re: Redeemable?

The tank? The best method is, because it could be panel beaten so much better if you cut (dremel) out a (well-chosen) panel, it then also makes it so easy to get the rust out of the inside thoroughly. Rattling around gravel in it and then pouring in an internal 'liner' will never do that, they are j...

Re: Redeemable?

Just don't chuck 'em away, it's surprising what can be reclaimed.
Maybe, try not to think of the dollar 'value' think of the use these parts might give someone in the future.
Everything boiled down to dollars is what's killing the World!

Re: Redeemable?

There's pretty well no way around it but to cut a panel out so it can be panel-beaten properly from the inside using a dolly, then de-rusted and welded up again. All that can be done. But particularly the welding is a skilled job. It might be possible to make a special dolly to go down the back to g...

Re: Redeemable?

I think Kman is right, it's the sort of job that if you can DIY it's worth doing, but if you have to pay someone else to do it... forget it, cost way too much. Is redeemable though.
