The best I've seen. Congrats.

Nice rgv phill. looks like you've caught a 2t bug. Rz is coming along nicely. Great colour scheme.

Thanks Mark, Ozzie & gman.

I've definitely re-caught the 2T bug since my rd350lc when I was about 19. I'm not sure if my neighbours are sharing my joy in the smokers!

The RGV is a nice tidy bike and I'm looking forward to getting it back on the road. New set of tyres and rear disc/pads go on this weekend before roadworthy test and rego in the next week or 2.

Painting on the RZ may have to wait a few weeks due to some other commitments but hoping to have it finished in time to put the bike in the Brisbane Laverda bike show in Sept. Dont think they have a category for bastardised 2 strokes!

Also have to find somewhere to store the other bikes while I convert the garage into a spray booth for a few weeks.

Hi LB,
I've refitted the oil pump and will try again to prime the pump to see if it's still got an issue producing air bubbles in the rhs oil feed tube.

I'm currently focusing on prepping the bodywork for painting in a few weeks.

Cheers

Haven't posted for a while as work and life got in the way of bike building.
Five pieces (tank is out of frame) now cleaned up and primer 90% finished, ready for painting in a couple of weeks.

Pushing on to get the painting finished despite having the flu last week. Spray booth setup again inside my garage. Final primer applied this afternoon. After final sanding it will get the white and pearl basecoats.

very nice, better than my 'sheets' setup lol. Are you painting with 1k or 2k?

Cheers Jon,
I'm using 2k paints so want to contain the fumes as well.
I've also fitted an air exractor with a particle and carbon filters.

Makes total sense to me, Ive been painting frame and other tubular parts and even using 1k its a smelly and dusty process.

I really like your setup, really nice. I assume youve got a clean air setup for breathing, do you have any advice on that? I was looking but nothing sensibly priced seems to be out there hence im stuck with 1k.

Hi Jon,

I'm not using a separate clean air system, but have clean air pumped in and extracted air out. I'm also using a full face 3M 6000 respirator with organic and particle filters. The respirator works really well and I cant even smell a hint of fumes until I take the mask off. I have a clean air attachment for the mask but the filters work better. Using a HVLP gun also keeps the overspray down.

Ohh, thats a nice respirator! Ive been using an A1 P1 mask thats great with 1k paints, cant smell a thing of the solvents, but its not man enough for 2k of course.

Cheers for the info and anything else you want to share as Im very interested in this, Im keen to move to 2k at some point as I want to do tanks etc.

Hi Jon,

PM sent with more details.

First colour basecoat on the tank tonight. Finally, something's not Grey, but a long way to go....
At least two base coats, then pearl coat, then fit pieces onto the bike and mask up for two other colours. Then red coats and black coats, then stickers and finally several clear coats! Lots of opportunities to stuff it up :)
Not sure if you guys want a blow by blow account or just the end result?

Phil
