Rg250 Chambers on Rz250

Bought my 83 RZ late last year, with original cigar pipes and they were pretty banged up....
So purchase early RG250 chambers and have 'made them fit'.
It has taken me a more hours than I care to think about to make them fit...

Cut headers of cigar pipes and welded to Rg down pipes. Fabricated mounts, so that chamber belly is bolted to underside of motor torsion bar rubbers.

Fitted Tyga Mufflers, and reshaped belly pan to clear the fatter chambers.

End result, they look pretty trick, but not run on road as yet.

Best bit is I have managed to keep centre stand with these pipes.

Has anyone used these chambers with good results on the 250 motor.

Any tips for tuning???

Heard they work pretty good too, hence the stupid amount of hours to make em fit.

Is there anyone out there who has done the same. Retaining std air box. Any special jetting tricks to get the most out of these pipes.

Don't want to go down the path of modern engine mods, rather try and keep the running gear 'period correct' to a point.

Have an R1 front brake set up, and will throw a few bucks at the suspension.

In other words looking for engine mods from the 80's to get the best out of this old girl, while still maintaining reliability.

Pretty sure Mark Boddy (mboddy) used to user modified RG pipes on his LC race bikes.
Not stock air boxes though.

Not sure now, as the Alek Hayes forum died in 2009 or so (RIP to what was once a great forum), I seem to recall a few RG250 YPVS ENGINE conversions ("YamaGamma"), I think these sometimes retained modified RG pipes, and in the UK that would always have been 350 motors. "RZ" 250's virtually non existant there.
Not sure what difference pipe volume and length would make between a 250 and 350 motor, but the reputation was that the RG pipe was quite well designed.

I have slung a set of late ( 'bean can' end-type) stock RZ 250 pipes on my commuter `85 RZ350 F1* ,
- after it spat out the remnants of a broken baffle from its 'cigar' pipes, & back to back performance-wise,
the later-style RZ 250 pipes did feel a bit more 'zippy' in mid-to-top end pick-up/rev-out on the 350..

( I later cut them open - removing the restrictive internal flow baffling & making 'real' chambers out of them,
& they worked better yet, together with a somewhat louder, but deeper & nicer sounding exhaust note..)

* The `85 RZ 350 F1 'cigar' pipes are also subtly different from the earlier 31K 'cigars' - as it happens, too..

Are you able to point out the diffs? Is it mostly baffling or shape?

I have used the rg250 pipes as well on lc rz and banshee..and they are a great pipe..and complement the engine very well u want the mk2 pipes . How ever i dont remember them being too difficult to fit..they are also great build quality and will take a good hit where aftermarket ones will crush
