[SOLD] F/S - 4LO 350LC engine

Post by hybrid »

This engine was a runner, but had a minor top end seizure.
I have taken the top end off for a quick look.

The head is in great condition with no marks.

The top end is 0.5 over (50 mark on the pistons).
I can see that the left cylinder has had a nip up, but would easily clean up with a hone.

No damage in the chain area, which is pretty rare these days.

Engine number is 5EOxxxxx, so casings are original 350.

I'm looking for $750 for the complete engine (minus the stator side engine cover).

Jon just made a good point about thieving ebay fees.

If someone here wants it, they can have it for $700, coz ebay will take that in fees anyway.

I've pulled this from ebay. When you take into consideration the ebay fees, plus the wankers you have to deal with, it's just not worth it.

So now it just stays on forums. I'm in no real rush to sell it.
I have the option of breaking it up for separate parts too, which may happen if I can be bothered :D

Best plan I reckon Jeff. Its worth your asking all day long for sure when someone needs one, tho naturally I was all set to put a bid on it on ebay when it was at $500, bargain! haha :D

Anyway, pull the cyls and head and sell those, another lump of useful cash that you might get sooner rather than later.

Too right. I think the funny thing, and Ive sold a few sets, is that people will usually buy cyls at 500 or so and put them on a shelf, but 750 for an engine you dont really need is more than the 'sense-o-meter' in your noggin will allow, but the same guys would happily pay $150 for a bottom end and $100 for a flywheel and stator thats passed the tests in the manual and put them on a shelf for later. Its all about how we account for stuff I reckon, dribs and drabs spend is ok, lumps are not. Weve all seen how boxes of spares and 'half a bike' projects net you more parts per $ than individual parts, but thats only useful if you need the parts or are willing to have them in a box under your bench as spares etc. Your motor has a few more parts in it than i listed so the value is in those too of course, ie clutch clover, crank, clutch parts, transmission, intakes etc etc, depends on how much you strip, but ive known guys refuse to pay $150-200 for a bottom end yet pay a few hundred for a transmission and clutch, they just didnt want to own the rest, too scared they wouldnt use it and have to throw it away, hadnt considered they could sell it on LOL

Anyway, splitting is slower to sell, but gets you moving...

Seems a good original lc bike is wearth $5-7g. If i owned one i could definatly see the value of a spare complete engine for $700. I've just paid $150 for one crankshaft bearing for a 60's 350. good to have spares. saves ordering and waiting for parts, paying fees and postage. i've shelved over size pistons and rings for 3 of my 2 stroke bikes. bought them when i found them cheap.

Just had a phone call with a bloke that saw my ad disappear and wanted the engine.
$750, no bs... a welcome change from the ebay antics.

He lives 6 hours away though, so taking deposit and I will hold it for him until he can make it to Sydney to pick it up.

Thats great, buyers like him are often better, Ive found buyers out in the sticks who dont get stuff on their doorstep and have to do the deposit/pickup thing so can be more on the ball than the drippy locals who just want a bargain etc.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping.. he seemed like a genuine bloke on the phone. But country folk generally are like that.
