Customs duty pro.

Post by Greasemeup »

Does anybody understand duty tariffs for motorcycle parts into Australia, I tried to find a category and couldn't get my head around it?

http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resou ... 7W2012.pdf

I think the category is 8714

But here seems to exclude motorcycle parts, no tariff price?

http://customs.gov.au/webdata/resources ... 00_000.pdf

Any help?

Anything over 1000 will attract duty. Painful because it will be close.

Over $1000 would be GST, not import duty.

My understanding is that import duty applies no matter what the cost.
If it's something that's made in japan, there should be no duty on it once the FTA with Japan goes through (if its not already).

LOL can you imagine that working Jeff... Customs are simple folk, 'over 1k = GST + fee'... I feel the Japan thing wont make any difference, its the spending outside of Aus that is the issue and they wont even notice or care. I hope Im worng, I really do.

It works with US stuff I have bought for my Mustang - including importing it initially. No import duties, only 10% GST.
GST is always going to apply, no matter if there is a FTA in place or not.

Don't confuse GST with import duty... they are separate things.

That probably explains the lack of a category for motorcycle parts. GST it is then. 10% for now, unless Joh gets his way..
