Steering bearings height

Post by Greasemeup »

So I need some help thinking through this.

I have a Yolk set off TDR to be put on RZ.

Both use same inner bearing sizes both ends.

Height-

TDR is 11mm upper & 17mm lower

RZ is 13mm both

How will the height difference effect the installation, should I be looking for different sizes?

Hmmmmm
I would have thought it wouldn't be an issue at the top but you'd crush the bearing against the cup on the bottom when you tighten the yoke as the mount bit will be of a smaller size. But that wont be an issue cause you're using the TDR yolk set. I gues sthe only thing might be the steering head on the frame at the bottom. Unless of course that when you measure the distance from the steering head internal lip to the bottom there is sufficient room to stick it in without it jutting out?\ Sealed bearings I presume so even that may not be an issue.

Just some thoughts.

you can get most of these bearings in 13 and 14, so should be able to make up what you need, depends on the height of the yoke of course, you need to do some measuring i think... you can also fit spacers as needed, its how we do RGV conversions on RZs, a 5mm spacer under the lower brg.

I did measure from top of bottom yolk to base that bearing rests on, at 6mm.

On the RZ frame the bottom of inner race is closer to 15mm set inside the housing.

I guess some of it will be taken up with the bearing lower & needles.

I am thinking I might need a spacer or wider bottom bearing.

Away for 3 weeks now so can't do anything..
