Don't know, just doesn't sit well in my head on an RD, like it's not meant to be there.

I am thinking of getting a soda blasting kit, any thoughts?

Soda blasting works really well.
Cheap and cleans up easy too.

Got a quote from Brendale powdercoaters for $70. Each frame.

Do you think the frames must be sand blasted or is soda blasting OK?

Sand will "key" the steel, soda won't, right?

70 seems cheap, having a sand blast and powder on a frame in sydney is 300. Unless anyone knows a cheaper place, then please do let me know.

Never had soda blasting done, but im told its great.

Yeah, I have to provide it clean & ready to coat, hence the question on blasting.

1st quote was 250 each, 70 sounds better :)

did they give you the choice of colours from a set of about 1000 or from 7? cheaper jobs are usually the 7 standard colours, many of which are fine on an RZ or LC. :)

Yeah, Black for LC & choice of signal, or flame or another red for the RZ.

Looked for a candy red but got huge quotes so that's out.

I really want to blast it myself but don't want to go backwards. I guess the coater will be able to tell me what he is happy with.

problem with blasting yourself is that you need a primer that powder will work with, not always easy as you will get blamed for a crap finish etc.

Jon is right, if you don't prime it properly the coating might not take and then its your problem.
IMHO, easier to get it striped, primed and coated at a reputable place and its their problem.
$250 sounds about right and to me a lot cheaper then having to strip and do it all again.

The best thing about having your frame done is that you now have a place to hang each of the parts you refurbish, instead of putting them in boxes and hiding them away. VP is king!

250 or so sounds about right. Let them deal with blasting etc, its too much fucking around if you do part of it and then they finish it. All to easy to wrong. And make sure they plug the threads etc, otherwise its tap and die time..

Oh yeah, it's great doing that.

The missus still won't let me have a frame on the dining table dammit. In the lounge room has been ok so far...

Jeez, my missus isn't even keen on them being in the garage I don't think. Mind you, they do seem to breed if left unattended.....
Ex UK, now in Adelaide. LC250/350. DT175. Shed full of sh1t in the vague form of dismantled rusty RD’s and RZ’s.
