YZ250 Cranshafts

Post by Nuts01YZ »

Well looks like there may have been an expensive error that has occurred as a result of a very inexperienced so called mate who gave us the wrong information when telling us to order parts for our YZ250.

He advised us that its a 2001 model by the Vin number but the engine number is differenet and it turns out to be a 2000 instead. So we ordered and installed a 2001 crankshaft into the motor.

My question is will this be ok? Or will it have issues? All the parts seemed to fit ok however is there a difference in the stroke of the crank or size of the rod that may cause the piston to blow up forget damaged in anyway?

The Part numbers of the Wiseco Crank is WPC127 but we were supposed to order a WPC126.

Crank pin is listed as 1mm difference in length.

Can someone jump in and tell us exactly what the crank pin is? Is that the bottom end pin through the wheels/big end?

i have had a look at my australian dealers yamaha parts file. it lists the 2 cranks as different by part numbers. yz250m 2000. crank assemble number is 5cu-1400-00.1. yz250n 2001 crank assemble 5mw-1400-00.1. Looking at each part of assemble some have same part numbers some different. Bearings in cases for both cranks are listed as same. con rod bearing big end different. (could be typo though, 2000 is 933310-5240j-1, 2001, 93310-52406.1) crank wheels on stator side the same, but clutch side is different. crank pin listing is same both cranks, part number 5cu-11681-00.1. I'm starting to confuse myself now. Seems the main difference is the clutch side crank wheel. It may have only had a small modification between the models without any real fitment difference.
I would think it could be used but For me i'd want to be sure it can be used. I would call the yamaha parts guru at yamaha nerang gold coast. Steve in spare parts has been doing it for 20 years and knows his stuff. there number is 0755571188.
Just an after thought mate at work has a yz250 either 2000 or 2001 and he will be needing a crank soon.
