Unless you want to run pre-mix, but that would be a total pain in the arse

Its not a huge pain really. I did an article about it on my website ages ago which might help?
http://www.2smoked.com/Yamaha_1985_RZ25 ... rsion.html

All the 350 parts can be found, its just what they might cost you these days. I also wrote an article on there about moving to a big bore like a 421. The costs are listed and even a few years on they were not mega different to now, both the OEM and aftermarket parts have both appreciated in cost a bit, but the OEM more so.
http://www.2smoked.com/Yamaha_RD_%26_RZ ... rimer.html

If you have an Aussie 1GA 250 from 1985 then you should have a 51L cylindered bike, thats the best 250 RZ yam ever made and makes good power as it has an extra boysen port in each cyl, no other RZ250 or 350 cyl has those. These perform really well and I'd urge you to try them and see what you think, if you have tried and still want speed then maybe go really big in cc and make a mad bike :)

As for CDI... the 51L-50 CDI will work on a 350, but its not the one Yam used, that was a 52Y-50 and it will work better with the cyls I would think. no one really knows as we cant get the curve info out of these boxes. Try them back to back and see what you prefer. Or you could buy a Zeeltronic and get more bhp and better PV control etc. Depends on what you want.

BRG, is yours also an 85? if its an earlier RZ then will need quite a bit to wake it up as those have less good OEM parts and were quite a bit slower than the 85.

I did an article on the 85 stuff: http://www.2smoked.com/Yamaha_1985_RZ25 ... RZ350.html

And my info on the 51L engine i think is in this one, I have that engine in an LC now: http://www.2smoked.com/Yamaha_251LC_198 ... _Home.html

And lastly... any oil pump you have should go to Arrow in the UK for overhaul if you want to make sure it works properly. Even brand new OEMs have been know to pump zero oil, so beware. I always have all my pumps restored (or upgraded) by him. He offers a great service and you wont be disappointed Im sure, plenty of us use him. Anyway, not an ad, I dont work for him lol (if you knew him that would make you laugh too, hes a cottage industry doing this for pocket money), just a very happy customer.

Hope some of that helps.

Ok thanks for the information more to it than I expected I’ll have to think about it I have plenty of time as the bike is in bits getting painted etc. Could get the oil pump changed to avoid having to pre mix but chasing all the parts would be a headache
