Yamaha listed them at $750 for an LC... painted, prior to stopping making them.

RZ tanks were not as much as 750, and they came painted and stickered. An alloy tank without paint would be a winner, but more like 500 than 1000 i reckon from what people said, most people wanted it for sub 200, they had no idea...

I reckon, and of course I'm only guessing, a new tank would have to cost $500 or so to produce and distribute, and I reckon if I could liberate the finances and it was the only way to resurrect an otherwise salvagable classic I'd pay upwards of that for a quality repro. For a few years the general wisdom has been that good old ones are pretty much gone.
$500 is about the rate for a couple of rebores and decent quality pistons, and you wouldn't really blink at being told that.
I'll qualify this by saying it would involve a fair bit of expensive tooling to start with, and volume of production would be nothing like Yamaha scale.
How MANY people would buy one? Its a risk for the producer, would have to be able to sit on an wxpensive stockpile for a while.

I contacted the Indian guys asking for more photos of their tank (before I scored the $80 beauty off Gumtree). He said that they were curerntly out of production and temporarily not available and that there tank was a copy of one sourced from Australia..... So there you go!

I am frustrated as hell............

I have found several good looking tanks on Yahoo Japan (TZ, RZ) but Japan post will not ship anything that has been in contact with fuel or oil !!

I bid on some NOS RZ exhaust baffles and they had to enter a manual bid as it fell into the bracket of potential contamination.........I did get them eventually though.
One day lad all this will be yours............

I bought a new LC tank while they were still available, and it was around $550 from memory with paint and decals.
