It's a sickness...
It's a sickness...
Thought it prudent to introduce myself...
I had a couple of Yamaha and Husky two-stroke dirties back in the day, but I then got into road bikes with Suzuki with their four-strokes (Kat 750, 1000, 1100, DR650) and an RG500 in the nineties.
After selling all of those (I should have kept that RG) I felt the need to attempt a restoration a couple of years back and bought myself a couple of GT750s.
I managed to make a good one out of that lot:
I decided one two stroke wasn't enough and I managed to find a basket-case RG500 that turned out alright after a bit:
The Missus then wanted to get in on the act so I bought her a T20 (no pics, it's in a million pieces at the moment) and for some unfathomable reason I've just bought myself a KR250A that's gonna need a fair bit of work.
Oh and there's also the two old nasty KTM dirties lurking in the shed somewhere:
All in all I figure I'm reasonably qualified to converse here - I'm looking forward to the odd conversation, most of them will be about parts for that KR I reckon...
Cheers
Paul

wish my Missus wanted to get in on the act.
Still, she did approve the last couple of purchases, so mustn't grumble.

Bite me, you far-riding fool!Thommo wrote:Sucked In buying that kwaka!

Do you even two-stroke Thommo?
Yeah the KR is gonna be a bloody headache and a half...
And no, you can't take the RE.
I've just glad-wrapped the aerial.

And I do 2 stroke, an 81 Rd250LC. It needs an engine..
How's the scooter racing? Heh heh heh
Re: It's a sickness...
Thommo, I thought it came with two sets of crankcases? What was the scoop with those? No cranks I know, which is a bit of a setback.... ;-)

Re: It's a sickness...
One case is missing virtually everything, it has selector forks in it and that's about it. The other engine, the gearbox and clutch is complete, but missing crank, bearings, rods, pistons, stator etc, water pump, oil pump etc. there are two carbs, but they are the same side, either two left or two right.
At the moment, I'm thinking it easier to find a complete engine, but, we'll see what happens.

Re: It's a sickness...
Oh, I have one set of barrels, which I haven't measured yet, they're in ok condition.
Re: It's a sickness...
Sounds like a bit of a challenge - I'll make you an offer for it ;-)

Re: It's a sickness...
Welcome! Very nice bikes you have there. I like the fork and wheel mods on the RG - are they aprilia? It's not obvious when you first look at the photo but looks like a nice upgrade and a nice change from the usual RGV mods.
Good luck with KR250, will watch your progress with interest - have one myself currently in the middle of being recommissioned:

Re: It's a sickness...
What wheels have you got on your Rg500? Looks good on them.
Handsome looking trailies.
Have you got any "before" photos? Would be very interesting to see where you started from, I'm presuming you've done a truckload of work on them.
