New website

Post by hybrid »

I have been slowly working on a new website backend as it seems the project for this one might have stalled.
Also, rather than putting a hack in place to try and stop multiple posting by those using phones/tablets, I'm looking to move to a new forum backend that supports tapatalk.

For those who want a sneak preview, go here:

http://new.2strokesdownunder.com

Your regular login should work, unless you joined in the last few days, because the data in there is a copy of our forum database from a few days ago.
For those of you who currently have tapatalk installed, feel free to search for "2strokes" in the app and you should find the new forum.
Note that anything you post there will be overwritten once the website is finalised and I move the live database over.

It's taken a LOT of time to get the look and feel right, so there may still be some bugs around.
Any constructive comments/suggestions welcome.
I have not added a calendar yet, but that will come.

Ok, I think we're close enough. The new website will not have anywhere near the sections of the old website, but considering 99% of people only ever look at the forums, the new site should do the job just fine.

This afternoon/tonight, the website might be unavailable for a little while, while I make the switch.

After not having interwebz for a few days, I thought I'd shifted planets when the page loaded.. Hahahaha

Phpbb, yell if you want a hand with the forum stuff, I own a couple of sites with phpbb.

The old forum was based on phpbb as well, just phpbb2 instead of 3. I've already got another couple of phpBB3 based websites, but this one is more difficult because it's wrapped up in a CMS.

By the way, if anyone finds anything weird or there is something you'd like to see included in the website, let me know.

G'day Hybrid,
I like the new website, nice and black.
Just one thing, to me the signatures (especially the large ones) seem to look like part of the thread, can something be done to them to dull them down or make them smaller so they don't stand out as part of the text?

Yeah I agree Matt, and it's something I can fix... it's just been low on the list.

I can make the separator different, maybe change the background colour of the signature area. I'll look into it.

Finding the black a bit of a headshift.
I just noticed the Upcoming Events thing in the corner, thats a good idea.

BRG, we actually already had the events block on the old site. That's one of the reasons I wanted to change. The old website had a lot of functions that caused clutter and nobody used.
