Crankshaft check Sydney - 250RS engine rebuild

Hi guys,

I recently bought a 250RS and it seems to vibrate more than it should. Seller told me crankshaft has been rebuilt "lately" but I was unable to get real numbers...

Anyway, I'd like to have it trued, would you have any address in good Sydney? Any 2 stroke shops? I know there use to be this 2 stroke shop at Rockdale on Princes Hwy but it shut down a couple of years ago now.

I wouldn't mind shipping it to the right guru if it needs any correction but I'd like to keep it local for a "simple" check...

Cheers!

Jeez, you are up early.
The general opinion in the forums seem to point to a user on here called 'Link'. He can be found in the user search above. I have yet to use him but the feedback from others is good. He's in Melbourne.
I have a crank waiting to be sent down there too.

I send mine to Link, have a look in the parts for sale section where there is a thread about his work.

I would check the engine mounts first.

Vibrations are not that bad... I'll give them a look, but do not expect any drama's there.
Thanks for the reminder anyway.

And I have replaced the clutch bearing (flat thrust one) and it is much better now...

I'm about to start putting the engine back together, would anyone have a leak test kit I could borrow/lease when finished?

I don't really want to buy one as I'd use it only once (hopefully!)...

Thanks!

Where are you located Jeff? I have my crank back from Link and about to start putting it all back together. If you are close I'd like to see how it's done before I do mine. I also need the vacuum kit too.

Hi Gavin,

I'm in Wolli Creek, next to the airport. Where abouts are you?
I have also just received my crank and cylinders back from link. Still have a few more parts on the way from Suzuki and pistons from Italy.
If you're close by we sure could meet and do it together...

And then have a 2stroke ride! :headbang: :woohoo:

You could make your own out of PVC piping.

I will be looking at it...
I've been told swimming pool place might have the proper plug for exhaust.

But what would you use to pressurize? Bike pump would be enough?

Dan McBryde in England makes leak test kits for a variety of engines and can also make them to special order: http://pure2strokespirit.net/forums/ind ... 2#msg32402

If you want to make part of the kit yourself, Dan may be willing to supply the remaining parts. You can contact him at maccas125 at hotmail dot com.

A bicycle hand pump or a blood pressure test kit pump usually seem to be the favoured means of pressurising.

Regards,
James

Dan is a great guy and his stuff seems to be the go to stuff. You can also use a brake bleed pump to do vac remember.

HVC cycle and others offer a kit with the BP pump, but Dans is better IMHO, just use your own pump and gauge.

You only need a few PSI in there, so any pump should do the trick.
