Heh heh heh ;-)
Ex UK, now in Adelaide. LC250/350. DT175. Shed full of sh1t in the vague form of dismantled rusty RD’s and RZ’s.

The worm is retained by a nut on that model. You need to take off the r/h case to remove it. A new seal for the worm shaft will also be required.

The wormshaft seal is still available from Yamaha. Wise to replace the kickstart seal too. Good luck with the wormshaft. I will look out for one if you want?

OK i think i have worked it out Arrow.
The R5 gear drive (white plastic cog) has 21 tooth drive and the ds7/rd250 has 22 teeth.
so both would use the same worm just different gear drive?

As I have said before, I don't confess to know all the worm drive arrangements on the early bikes, suffice to say it would surprise me greatly if the ds7 and r5 worm were the same. You can't run the 21T gear on the ds7 as the primary gears are different between the two bikes.
