RZ Top Triple Clamp for Naked Bike

Post by Lowflying »

Ok. Converting my faired, clip on '85 RZ to more of a naked style, round headlight, street tracker barred bike. Probably be easiest to mount regular bars if I had the top triple from an originally naked bike, I reckon.

Anybody got stuff they are looking to sell/get rid of to make this work for me?

Any other general suggestions about this project welcome.

Cheers.

How about a set of these: http://japan.webike.net/products/310973.html ?

Or these: http://japan.webike.net/products/1856881.html ?

If you want something cheaper (and have free access to a mill) you could make your own, to suit your existing top bridge. There are likely other cheaper options also - have a look at Page 443 of Chapter 9 of the MCS Catalogue: http://mcsonline.com.au/Catologue/ch_9.pdf

Hey James,

Thanks for all that. I will study and see what I can come up with. I'm currently chasing a lead on rzrd500.com but should that be fruitless it looks like you have pointed me in the direction of a possible Plan B.

Cheers,

Rob.

Be advised L-F, that the clip-on equipped '85 models were intended to have the fork stanchions project through
the top triple clamp, but I dunno, maybe a regular handlebar clamp will allow clearance over the top of them?

You will have to replace the levers/mounts though, because the clip-on type - are angled to compensate.

Pretty sure that the `85- models which were 'naked' from the factory - still used the clip-on bars though..

Actually, L-F, you could just get the old angle grinder with a cut-off wheel on to those steel clip-on mounts, & sever the
old ones & have a 'swan-neck' bend set of 1/2 bars ( a chosen one-piece shape - cut in 2) welded onto the Yam mounts?

( I am referring to the clip-on bars themselves, & not the top triple clamp).

Thanks for all the suggestions, but I have sourced one from a guy on the rzrd site from Florida for 74 usd including shipping. Part is blasted, so ready for paint. No bolts included, I'll have to figure that out later. Now I just gotta wait paitently for the mailman (sound of toe tapping)...

Great news, bolts... you can use pretty much anything really for that clamp, grab some stainless allen bolts with the right thread and youre done.
