2 Strokes Down Under

I am sure this topic has been discussed before but I want to ask if there is any sort of consensus as to what the best fuel is to use in a classic 2 stroke bike.

My examples are both pretty standard, save for a mild (stage 1) engine tune and I would like to know what modern fuel octane rating would be best suited to running them.

Hoping that I haven't opened up the proverbial can of worms, I look forward to hearing people's thoughts on this subject.

Soft tuned & they won't be real fussy... hi-comp, use 98..
Cheapest for commuting use is 10% ethanol/95, stock RZ 350 runs fine on it..
Some sporty Euro bikes demand the pricey stuff..

Regular use so the fuel stays fresh is important.. or..
..if you leave it for weeks, drain it out & put it in your car, & use fresh stuff..

I buy a couple of jerry cans worth when I fill the car, & keep them sealed until
I'm ready to ride - then fill the bike with the fresh fuel.

I like to to leave a bike parked after a ride with a full tank to reduce condensation,
- with a splash of 2T oil in it as anti-rust..
& add some acetone to keep any H2O from dropping out of suspension & rusting the tank base..
I even put some gum over the tank vent to try & stop it out-gassing too much..

Kick the engine through a few cycles regularly too, if you have it parked,
- it spreads the lube around, pumps up the seals, rotates the bearings,
& means the same cylinder isn't always open to the air..

If you're going to run E10, make sure your fuel lines are capable of handling ethanol or it can get nasty.
The fuel lines will rot from the inside, so you won't notice it happening until they are truly toast.

Always use 98 only & a cap full of metho every few mnths to evaporate water/condensation. Always fill tank too when parked up.
