RE-introduction

Post by Lowflying »

I had disappeared from this site as I sold my RZ a few years ago. Figured I’d never have a smoker again, as I’m not super into wrenching and I was tired of having a garage full of parts on standby to keep my bike running.

Well, never say never. This caught my eye:

https://saltmotorcycles.com.au/

I’ve been working like a bastard lately, so more money than time, or sense for that matter. Also, being post-mortgage and kids, etc, I thought I’d do my part to get the post-Covid (well, maybe it’s not over yet) economy moving. So, I’ve got one of these little beasties on order. It’s built and being delivered to my doorstep middle of the month. I can’t wait to hear that pipe sing! :D

It feels like cheating of course, electric start, port fuel injection, Recluse clutch (I wonder if that will feel weird?), etc. It is definitely a chequebook special but, as I once remember reading some guy saying “If I had all the money I’ve wasted on motorcycles over the years, I would spend it on motorcycles”!

Welcome back!

Interesting, Id never seen of heard of these.

Let us know what its like when you get it.

I had a 250EXC KTM about 20 years back and it was a demon on the road. Too much power for its off road tyres and it ate it sprockets and even ripped them from the wheel, sheering the bolts. The FI 300 will be 'more' but hopefully also a bit tamed I would think. Should be a fun ride.

Thanks Jon. The bike is apparently 110kg wet, I think, so with the 300 TPI motor, that has 50 odd horses, it should go ok.

Thanks for sharing your story, it’s bloody brilliant that strokers are making something of a comeback in these increasingly sanitised times.

52hp and 111 kgs, what could possibly go wrong?

Man. Frustrating. Bike delivered on February 22nd and it’s been pissing down ever since.🤬

But, I’ve had lots of time to look it over in the shed. They have done a great job. Everywhere I look it’s beautiful. All the custom work, and there’s lots of it, seems really well done. Paintwork flawless. You can see where the money has gone. They’ve also gone to town with documentation. Comes with the stock KTM donor bike’s manual plus they have made an appendix with drawings and tech specs of the custom work they’ve done. Also included is all the paperwork for the Acewell gauge, the Recluse clutch, the bar end mirrors, etc. very comprehensive.

Paul Lewis, ex Aussie 500 GP racer, is involved in test riding and development so I expect she’ll ride nicely. I’ll give a report, if it ever stops raining! 🙄🤷‍♂️

I’d include a pic, but this site says max size two bytes? Wtf?

Thanks for posting my pics. Those were pics of my bike that Salt took before sending it to me.

Just rode it! I’ll post my thoughts on “other 2 strokes”.
