KR-1 /KR-1S

Does anyone realise how good these babies are? I'm in the lengthy process of converting one into something special. I have been collecting bits like 54 X 54mm , mx cylinders, 90 deg crank, programmable ignition, rm 125 carbs, TYGA body work. Be painted orange and be no 'BULL' with it. :wink:

Fragile :? RGV 's I build have 65HP on the wheel with a fat mid range with just bolt on bits.

Anyways got hold of a fairing to make my moulds off and hard to belive the donor fairing fitted like glove. Most of the mounting holes lined up. A before pic will be here shortly

Wasn't it only the first ones that had reliability issues. The later KR1 were quite good, not to mention faster than the RGV in stock trim.

something about the cranks pounding out the cases or something if i remember right.

Thats the tandem twin so not the KR1-S

No pics I just mocked up at home. I have t cut the belly pan to make it fit. I didn'y want to do that til I had the copies. I have those now so I'll get around to that.

Yes bob the cranks are a bit how you going, mainly because of the thrust washers being to thin, and usualy cry enough when switched to pre-mix and run on less than 20:1 oil.
The tandem twin in another frame , maybe RGV/NSR/TZR would make an awesome bike. I have a pair of cylinders here that will be basicaly copies of Aprilia GP cylinders. The owner will be machining up disc covers to rid then of the dicky 'reed before the disc valve' thing with a 115mm rods and Mito pistons, some pipes and an ignition it should go very hard. Would be nice to convert it to twingle firing also.

be a shame to go to all that to only make 1 set.

Yep seat is being done also, I don't have an original that was off a mates tail. Will let you know when they pop out of the mould. They are flat out ATM getting ready for Phillip Island in 2 weeks.

I have a KR1-R . 150 made and most destroyed by Kamikazi pilots in Japan prody racing . Few outside of Japan . R's had 35mm Kehins , close ratio gearbox . upgraded clutch springs , programable igniter box.

I often wonder whether the upside down V twin was less seizure prone due to the added benefit of gravity. (oil running down the bore to keep it lubed) but I guess that gravity is a tiny force compared to the pumping piston 'sweeping' the bore and turbulent flows and 130000RPM.
somewhat similar to a car windscreen o0n the highway in a rainstorm.
sure gravity is a constant so is pulling the water down when the blade sweeps past but the wind velocity still is the major force which pushes the water 'up'.

I want a KR1-R but cant see it happening any time soon. My track bike KR1 will have to do for now.
