CR(M)250AR SUPERMOTO BUILD
Re: CRM250AR full rebuild from the ground up
Some good news and some great news..
Got my rod in the mail today, Im very impressed with the mitaka quality
-silver plated bearing, good lubrications provisions in the big end, not so much in the small end though, but the rod is very robust and should last a lifetime!
the great news is that my PC pipe may infact be from a CR250, not a CRM250... which means no pipe changes are required.
the evidence for this is that almost all crm pipe headers are a flange conection, where as this one is purely sping bound (ala CR250)
and some bad news... I drained my bank acount lol
no more progress for two weeks
will be sending my crank up to graham then

Cheers Mate
just for a bit of fun, I wondered what would happen if I put some flat tracker bodywork on my CRM
so I took a picture of John Kocinski's VMX CR250 flat tracker and merged it with parts from the CRM250 and CR250...
Looks pretty good I reckon.
I might have to get some bodywork for it later on down the track once Iv got her running.

Re: CRM250AR full rebuild from the ground up
Cylinder turned up in the post.
Just have to track down a PV mechanism for it.
Most likely going to send of my Crank to Graham on Tues/Wednesday.
Just sent off my CRM and KTM wiring diagrams to Zeeltronic to find suitable ignition models for them.

Re: CRM250AR full rebuild from the ground up
Cheers mate,
Im glad that someone likes it, most motorcross riders have turned their nose up and say 'jeez that pipe looks like it was built in a backyard shed
wheres the chrome!'
they say that with ignorance because the best pipes are made in a backyard shed! haha
I thought the PC pipe was from a CR250, but im starting the beleive that its not.
the only thing that made me think it was a CR pipe was that a CRM250.com moderator told me that the CRM pipes usually have a flange conection to the exh port and this one doesn't have one. but apparently most PC pipes are spring mounted only. so that rule doesn't apply
I read a pipe reveiw for a 2002 CR250 in dirt bike mag
the doma was the best but not by much, but at 400 bucks, its not worth it.
then the PC and FMF fatty came in second.
the PC felt like a snappy version of the stock pipe with a little more on top.
the FMF was much better in the mid range and a little better than stock on top.
although all along Iv been chasing peak hp for bragging rights, for what I'm going to be using this bike for, a meaty mid range will be a great asset too!.

Re: CRM250AR full rebuild from the ground up
yeah i love how people like putting crome on a bike that is designed to get dirty haha
yeah pc's and fmf i believe have now gone to spring mounted everything... it was a pig trying to fit my pc's to the rz flange but i got there haha
really if your after a pipe for a 2 smoke best is custom. the fatty pipes are good ive always wanted to try the the fmf gnarly but can never find one at the right price.
from what ive read and worked out the fatty is a great all rounded pipe the pc is low to mid range and same with the gnarly
one thing i love about custom pipes is the sectioned welds like this
look out lozza haha im fussy
cheers aaron

Re: CRM250AR full rebuild from the ground up
yeah, 2Tinstitute is making me a moster pipe like that for my KTMito380
I think its 250mm wide in the belly
I would kill to have another pipe made for the CRM as it would probably unleash another 5hp...
but Iv already got him doing far too much for me already, and my bike is 1000km away from his place.
maybe in a few years when I actually NEED the extra 5hp, because at the moment I just WANT it.

Re: CRM250AR full rebuild from the ground up
by the way... the biggest misconception ive found with the pipes is people seeing a particular brand of pipe on another model bike performs with a certain properties or characteristics , and then presuming that all their pipes are like this.
I was even cautious reading the 2002 CR250 pipe review for my 2005 CR250

Re: CRM250AR full rebuild from the ground up
couple smal updates
got myself a PWK 38 carb with TPS and powerjet solenoids
got some acerbis SM fenders to make her look a little more modern
some mean looking mirrors and some LED indicators
Graham is currently working away on my crank and I should have it back next week
Im currently eyeing off an OEM 2005 CR250 pipe on ebay, aparently better than the cheaper of the aftermarket pipes.
and I tracked down a decent carb boot for the bike, a wide throat intake boot designed for CR500 quads.
the stock crm boot has a 25mm restriction in it!

Re: CRM250AR full rebuild from the ground up
Here are the pics as promised...
Front fender installed this afternoon
Koso mirrors are one the bike
not going to put the LED indicators on untill after its rego'd because they probably wont pass
getting my crank back after the weekend, fully rebuilt.
then can put my bottom end back together
Things Im adding to the shopping list:
some new white fork protectors from a CRF250/450, the new fender makes them look uber faded
Should be scoring an OEM cr250 pipe this weekend, after speaking to Lozza at 2T institute, I have found that the late model cr250 stockies are far better than most of the after market pipes. that is in terms of the intergral of power (area under the HP curve, and peak power
