Cheap Genuine PWK28 (not so cheap any more, they're onto us)

Post by hybrid »

Unfortunately I just paid more than this for second hand carbs from the UK, but a guy on the 500 forum has found Kawasaki selling these carbs VERY cheap (~US$85) each.

For example, here is a link to a 2001 KX85 carb, which is a PWK28

I wish I had have found this a week ago, because I paid more than this for second hand ones

I know what you mean, but Im not wholly sure about these Hybrid. Ive asked on the 350 forums a lot about them and no one has tried them. My concern lies in the fact that there are plenty of carbs that look and have the same numbers but the inner galleys and such are smaller or just plain different. For example the RZ250 and 350 uses the same VM26, which look the same.... but the 250s are smaller in the tubes case into the carb and also on PJ versions the PJs are not removable.

So, I would love to know that these were the same and they were a great source, but it does remain to be proven I guess.

Well the guy that posted to the 500 forums has bought them and confirmed they are PWK28, and they are genuine keihin.
There is even a part number in this pic you could look up.
For a modern 85cc stroker, I can't see them going any smaller than 28mm.

Yeah sorry, I guess I didnt explain it very well... its not that i think its not a genuine part, or not a genuine PWK, or even a genuine PWK28... its just that not all carbs with the same name/number/model are created equal. Another example is the FCR41... plenty of those with that ID are different, some have TPS, some have choke lever, some have knob, some have cable, some are more like 40mm (for Honda CRFs I think) etc. Often the first number is a generic model, and in this case after a google i would agree that G617 is a PWK28, but the actual model is detailed by the later half, ie the AYD1 is the one for the KX85 perhaps, I dont have my KR1S ones handy, but expect they have different numbers, not least as they are designed to sit side by side, so the functions are handed etc.

Dont get me wrong, I would love to be able to use these on my bikes and if they are a solid and simple base model PWK28 then I'd grab them at that price all day long for my bikes :)

If you're interested in them, then keep an eye on the 500 forum.
He has already got 4 of them and pretty sure he's listed the jetting that comes with them too.

For $85, they're comparable in price to the cheapies anyway, which can take a buttload of setup to get right.

I pretty much bolted my KR1-s carbs straight up to my 350LC.

I agree t'is indeed a bargain, I reckon if we brought in a box load they'd sell out in minutes to hungry forumers :)

Here is the link for those who wanted to hear about these on the RZ500:

The carbs in the link will be great for your KR1-s.
Might have to fiddle with jetting like I did.

Would these suit an RZ350, and are they still available at these bargain prices?

Yes they would be fine for an RZ350. I have them on my 350LC and they made a nice difference.

I think they have gone up a little bit as the kwaka suppliers have worked out they are popular, but they are still less than US$100 a pop I think.

original link doesn't get straight to the carb, dug around and the 2006 kx85 carb "assembly" (is that a whole carb?) is now $143, bugger, almost doubled.

re-reading the thread I'll go look up the 2001 model....
