Re: My old twostroke DKW

Parts...... well they were available pre ww2, then the factory suffered quite a few bombs, then the allies stripped the factory and built DKW copies all around the world in the 50's & 60's....BSA Bantam and Jawa twostrokes being the most volume......and the Yamaha YA1 being another. You make par...

My old twostroke DKW

I thought you might enjoy a look at a old bike of mine that has been consuming a bit of my time......its really rockinghorse shit rare, the only one in the southern hemisphere, and one of only a dozen or so in the world....and its the great grandfather of all modern twostrokes. A 1937 DKW 500 Sport ...

Re: KX CRANK HELP

Mike, the snap-on number for the puller is CJ950
that one will do up to 6305 size (62mm)

they come up on ebay from time to time circa $70 but retail is $100+

if you are only going to use it once or twice, there are cheaper chinese ones around starting at $20.

Re: KX CRANK HELP

Mike, There is a puller designed to squeeze behind the bearings with a conical tapered wedge that pulls the bearings off. expensive...... snap on ones are circa $100 each...... crappy ones that only last 3 or 4 uses are $25... I see on a few of the discussions reference to Main bearings These may in...

Re: crank seal wear Yamaha DS6

Are you using a genuine yamaha crank seal with the teflon coated lips or an aftermarket seal designed for another purpose. The difference in durability is substantial..... The petrol and oil mix will destroy the sealing surface (lips) of a "normal" seal which is designed to only keep miner...

Alloy rims old school

Wanted a couple of 18" or 19" old style alloy rims for my 1937 DKW 500 Sport watercooled period 2 Racer.

Got to give the Indians and Harleys a hurry up, and a two stroke will piss them off........

A double sided single leading shoe brake would be nice as well...... :D

Re: CRM250AR full rebuild from the ground up

The "scuff marks" on the alloy clutch basket are caused by the tool the factory uses to remove the casting "flash" or excess material which is present during the manufacturing process. The tool is something like a thick circular bandsaw blade and it is pushed over the outside of ...

Re: Crank rebuilding S/E Qld

Jeram, I have done a few single cranks, mainly for the single cyl 250 National Superkart class where KX250's and YZ250's are reved up to 10.500 or so. We only changed the balance factor 3-4% or so....... from 64 to 68% from memory, and it made a bit of difference..... esp when using the older style ...

Re: Crank rebuilding S/E Qld

All were 250LC as far as I know, so if the numbers are the critera, probably not, but I do have some spare 250 ones........ You got me thinking...... a couple/3 of the motors had the cylinders off so I will check the numbers and get back..... Graham PS if I don't answer my phone, just leave a messag...

Re: Crank rebuilding S/E Qld

Its the only way to keep a KZ1000 or GSXR1100 roller bearing crank together under drag racing loading..... not a "correct engineering" way to do it I agree, but its a practical way of allowing high loading to exist and be reliable, whereas to not do it would encourage failure. The spreadin...

Re: Crank rebuilding S/E Qld

If the twin is an RDLC, there are good quality aftermarket conrods available (Long brand from Japan) at less than $90 a cylinder. I tend to not use the supplied bearing/cage assembly as better quality ones are available just over $20 each. I have stripped 6 LC motors recently, (I bought a job lot of...
