Re: DT200: In storage for years, gotta get 'em running...
Just want to say, "Two Stroke" and "Tragic" don't belong in the same sentence. Hahaha, words to live by!  Well everyting cleaned up nicely, reassembled the carb yesterday: http://i.imgur.com/wnghB6B.jpg?1 At first I was a bit worried that I wouldn't know how to pu...

Re: DT200: In storage for years, gotta get 'em running...
Todays update, no more varnish in the carbs. But you've gotta be careful what containers you use your acetone in. I thought this one might be a bit iffy after I poured the acetone in and the plastic went white. http://i.imgur.com/VfSZUbD.jpg In hindsight I should have taken the parts out and saved a...

Re: DT200: In storage for years, gotta get 'em running...
To warm the carb - Hah! Well there ya go! Good to know. I've disassembled everything as much as I can but I think there's still part below the main jet - the needle jet still has to come out? The manual just says "remove valve seat, main jet, jet needle holder" and then further down it jus...

Re: DT200: In storage for years, gotta get 'em running...
A funny carb... you're not kidding! A couple of mates came over today and we had a bit of a play around getting the airbox & carb out and trying to strip & clean the carb. One of them started taking off all the hoses attached to the carb and then coolant started leaking out! Were like "...

Re: DT200: In storage for years, gotta get 'em running...
Haha, should have expected you to ask hybrid ! But I don't think my mate will be too keen to part with his, and I'm quite liking the idea of having a bike sitting in the garage that is ready to hit the dirt. Ordered tank sealer, didn't realise that one kit should actually be able to do both ta...

Re: DT200: In storage for years, gotta get 'em running...
Sounds like a plan... was hoping to luck out and avoid a carb teardown but yeah, probably fat chance I can get away without it.
Cheers!

DT200: In storage for years, gotta get 'em running...
Hi folks, Well it seems like I may be a 2 stroke tragic... Haven't even got the KTM 380 back together yet and already another project on the go. Although hopefully this is nothing as involved as the 380... I'm not worried at all about making it look pretty, just going to get it running & ride it...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.
Cheers Jeram, got it! Haven't got back to checking the base gasket measurements again... but had a friend over just taking a quick look at the bikes & projects on the go. I showed them the KTM, new piston and they mentioned "is the top of the piston not sitting flush on both sides of cylind...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.
No, not torqued down. I only used two of the cylinder base nuts as well (that was something else I read from another forum and that person also said not to install the piston rings, seemed to make sense to make it easier & quicker to change base gaskets). What do you reckon? Is it preferable to ...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.
Haha, ok then! Next question - "X" dimension, how important is this really? The manual says 0.00mm (+0.1mm). I'm using a Moose gasket kit which looks like it has a 0.3, 0.5 and 0.8mm base gaskets. I went straight for the middle option and using a ruler and set of feeler gauges I would say ...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.
Okay, new piston installed. Solution was to stop being a pussy with it, put some muscle into it and put some scratches on it! :P (Just some small marks in that recessed area from the spring clips.) Just took off the stator cover so I can finish up and check the X dimension and it's a bit dirty! http...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.
Cheers, I'll have a crack next chance I get... I do have a pair of circlip pliers (both internal and external, even!) but this clip is more just like a piece of thick wire bent into a circular shape, no holes at the ends. The old ones were the same. Maybe that means that it isn't actually a circlip,...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.
I have everything out on the bench ready to reassemble... currently stuck on trying to install the new circlip into the new piston. Doing the first one while it's out on the workbench but it seems like a real bugger. Is there a special technique that I'm not aware of, or are they all just a PITA? I ...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.
Genius! Will flip 'em. I thought I would take the cylinder to a shop & have it measured just to be sure & try to do things the "right way", but the guy there took a bit of a look at it and said that with the wear on the bore I should just go with the largest/D size piston as...
