Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Ok, getting back onto this now, trying to get everything organised for one final parts order. Just wondering how reed petals should look, should they have all edges flush against the cage, or is a slight gap okay? Here's how they look now: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3913/14872838005_60bbca7866_c...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

PM sent.

If you reckon you can fix that plating area well enough so I can install a new piston and have it last 50+ hours I'd be pretty stoked with that!

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

8O Please do tell of your secret methods!! I have the cylinder completely stripped now, ready for anything that needs to be done. I have contacted Millennium Technologies and US Chrome in the States, so my only decision now is whether I send it overseas or drive up to Aurum at Naranga and give them ...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Thanks for the clarification 2TInstitute , that's what I thought. I guess you're talking about fixing the general cylinder appearance in 5 min? Not the worn through Nikasil? I got ahead of myself again... haven't got the cylinder replating organised yet because I've gotta take out the stubborn phili...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Okay, I got to cleaning up the cylinder with hydrochloric acid, there was really only one small noticable aluminium deposit on the lower part of the cylinder, that cleaned up pretty well. Then I noticed some marking below the exhaust port, it was bubbling up real good just like I remembered ally doe...

Re: New website

Looking good! Just one question... does it come in a darker black? Haha :P Nice work hybrid ! But one question/suggestion - I had a quick look but didn't see any options in the User CP to change the theme/colours? The white text on dark grey for posts is okay for small comments like this, but I thin...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Thanks 2TInstitute , I may be getting a bit ahead of myself, first I need to get some hydrochloric acid and see how much of the marks that will remove from the cylinder... About the scotch brite pads - that seems to be an issue of great contention among forum users... that doesn't actually remove an...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a 2 stroke shop in Brisbane? For the honing, or other work if required (cylinder repair/replating)? Otherwise postage is not too expensive, so any recommendations on VIC, NSW shops would be good as well. Cheers. Edit>> Just found a shop 8 minutes away, I'll giv...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Thanks for the info Jeram. Good to know about the rehone possibility & properties of cast pistons Vs. forged. And yeah I will definitely be using taller gearing.

Don't get too technical on me though fellas, I'm new to all this 2T jargon. Metric poofteenths & bees dicks... *sheesh*

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Cheers for those links hybrid , just what I needed. Thus begins my crash course in 2T operation & servicing. And to answer an earlier question - yeah I can definitely feel the score/gouge marks on the piston. Nevermind feeling it with a fingernail, I can feel it with my fingertip! But it doesn't...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Thanks for the other replies. I am leaning towards just doing the easiest, minimal repairs/replacement first so I can ride the thing, and like JonW says, see what's what. And I won't be getting bored of the project, I'm just getting to the good bits now! Can't remember which forum exactly wher...

Re: KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Thanks hybrid , that's a big help. So, just trying to understand what might cause a minor seizure - would that be a case of the previous owner maybe getting the premix ratio wrong or trying to go too lean with the oil? I guess it must have come good with the right premix ratio or at least not be cau...

KTM 380 - rebuild req'd? Help a 2T n00b.

Hey all, I joined ageees ago when I picked up a '99 380 EXC (EGS?). Well everything is starting to come together finally so I have turned my attention to the engine now. Here's what it was like when I gave it a quick ride around the block after getting it back home. 66VWeLpxI2o Not sure if you can t...

Re: Airbox size & openings - how much affect on performance?

OzzyElsie - that sounds interesting, do you have any photos or drawings of your fibreglass replacement? I'm not familiar with the DT360 - did you add a larger airbox, or didn't it have one as stock?

Not that I'm going to do anything like that, but I'm still interested in learning about 2T.

Re: Airbox size & openings - how much affect on performance?

Hey Jeram . Yes I'll join any forum, no shame. Haha. Cheers for that info. I will leave the airbox as-is, just removing this little section on the rear fender. I'll bet it's going to have minimal effect anyway... I can always put it back to stock shape if needed. I actually thought about making a re...
