Hi Guys,
I'm Dean from Blacktown, Sydney. Been looking at others projects and builds and Wanted to get my own bike to pass-time, restore etc.
I've been into the Yamaha Air cooled stuff. Got 2 Air cooled RD's back home, these were launched under the Brand RAJDOOT in collaboration with Yamaha. severly detuned to 30bhp- these were launched in the early 80's there. pretty bad history with them back home during that period but thats better now, but anyway thats another story.
I found this bike on gumtree first
so i picked it up $450. plus shipping from brisbane another $300. Owner dint have a clue what he was selling. pretty messed up bike must say with some home made pipes. 31k Barrels and bored out to 64mm.
Stripped this one today and it was not so exciting. seized crank but good top end.
what pistons are these ? ? ?
cheers.

Whats the best way to remove paint from the gear box and barrels ? Paint stripper?
Im going to paint them in high heat resistant paint back to factory finish, just wanted to achieve a good blank stale to work on coz the paint is peeling in a lot of places.
Been in touch with Pat on the forums although havnt met up with him as yet. he's given me a few leads with bikes in the past but the deals did not go thru.
and now I have 2 RZ's. planning to keep one for daily commute and sell the Cage and keep the other one for Parts.

I've done just that for good results.
If you are going to use the bike as an every day bike and wanting it to look its best for the longest you might look at powder coating. This can be done commercially or DIY.
I haven't done DIY powder coating myself but I intend to shortly. Just trying to suss out suppliers of the powder - right colour, prices and chooses etc.

Is the rust into the bearings or is it all on the surface?
I had a crank that looked like that but all the rust was on the surface and was carefully removed and the crank is still good.

Doug Bryant in Canberra has a freshly rebuilt RZ crank.
Wayne Bryant who does my race cranks rebuilt it.
PM me if you are interested and I will send you his email address.

Invest in a new after market one ie Banshee
Much cheaper than rebuilding one
