..........or anyone else with an expert opinion.

What caused these hairlines?

The paint was done by a professional (not me ) about tens years ago (sooo long - where does time go ). I would normally associated hairlines with stress - these parts are not under stress nor have they been.

I will suffer them for the time being but might repaint in the future, either these or replacement parts, and I wondering what do I have to avoid.

I think their called "crows feet" and are associated with paint underneath, I am under the impression that the 2 paint jobs expand / shrink at different rates with temperature change, cracks appear because their stuck to each other, something's got to give.

Not a painter, so could just be urban myth / legend.

sounds plausible to me, they do say paint is mostly about the prep, and different paint types don't always get along. Bummer.

How long have the cracks been there? I come across spider cracks particularly in fibreglass.and it's generally an age/stress thing.

Crows feet or shrinkage is when you fuck your recoat times up or when you try and chuck an acrylic over an enamel etc.

2k basecoat is shocking for it whe your song repairs or touch ups. The reducers are somewhat acidic.

The cracks have been there for a while (3-5 years). I was doing a little tarting and tiding and it got me thinking, but as I said I probably won't re-paint just yet.

The tank is fine, it is just on the duck tail and side covers - nothing major. Only noticeable for a concourse.

Thommo's thoughts make more sense of it, knowing that it's on the plastics, I thought it was on the tank where you wouldn't get stress cracks.

That can happen when incompatible paints are used. Probably the primer and top coats.

That tank will have to go back to bare metal, or it will likely happen again.
