It would be an enormous gamble based on those photos. I would consider it but I think the price is 'over the top'. If well finished it could be left raw and polished....



Depending if you went OEM colours and decals or if you went custom there could be another $500-1000 for paint - at least it wouldn't rust and spoil the paint work. Although might 'spring a leak' if not well welded - and coming from India you would never know .

Unfortunately, I think eventually someone is going to have to take the risk. There will be no other options eventually. If you're going to paint - even some kind of fibre is an option. I guess we could still use old rusted tanks to make moulds.

Fibre would be fine if ethanol didnt eat the resins :/

I guess you could always flow a liner in the alloy tank, that would stop any leaks. My worry would be the shape, but of thats ok then its probably a no brianer if you like the polished look... not for me tho.

Thought it was interesting in context of repair costs recently put up on other threads.

they can, in alloy too, but its 2-3k...

I always run premium in my bikes, so ethanol is not an issue.

I'm not sure if it will. There is already some bubbling about the fact that there is absolutely no real benefit to it at all.

They can't get rid of ethanol free fuel completely because it's still not meant to be used in garden tools, boats etc.

Has anyone on the forum bought or seen 'up close' one of the Indian made LC tanks? Or any of the replica tanks?

Do they 'pass muster'? Good shape? Quality of metal? Rust free?

Could they be past off as OEM or are there obvious (maybe subtle) tell tales?

From the photos I've seen they do not inspire confidence.

Yeah I'm sure I saw somewhere that they weren't all that good.
Problem is that take many hours to make by hand... so somewhere like India is one of few places where it would be "affordable" to go that way.

Maybe someone needs to cut a tank in half and have the halves stamped in China and welded together. But is the market big enough to support it? Not sure.
