aftermarket front end ideas?

Hey guys i have a ds7 and in the future i want to remove the drum front wheel and forks.
Is the only option a rd disk conversion including forks and all or can i get any forks off a wrecked bike.
EG an R1 or something?

You can make most things fit with the right amount of time/effort/money.
The length of your headstock is the important part to determine what can fit.
If they are the same length as the RD/LC, you might be able to fit RGV forks. They fit very easily to the RD/LC with just a 5mm spacer at the bottom of the triple stem.

you defo can make anything fit, no matter the headstock size as you can make new pins and other things, depends on how much work you want to do. Do remember that an R1 front end will be expecting to hold up you and an R1 in the geometry of an R1, if you significantly alter any of that scenario then you will need to chnage springs and valving in the forks, and also that if you do the front, you also need to upgrade the back...

Yeah I wouldn't be using anything off a bigger bike like an R1.
Aside from the fact that they will be sprung for a heavier bike, they are also much bigger/bulkier than you need.

RD350 twin disc front end would suit if you want to get rid of the drum, I think you can get them with spoked rims if you want to keep the rear.
RD400 if you want cast & period.
FZR250 if you want a more modern look. I seen pix of an SRX250 with that setup.
R1 seems too modern / heavy / large / possible cooling issues on an air cooled bike I have read.

Cooling issues because of the larger diameter blocking airflow?
You also have to consider ancilleries such as the mudguard which won't match the back of the bike etc.

yeah USD forks do cause cooling issues due to the very thick legs, wheels and guard.

Yeah fzr 250 front end is a direct bolt on to rz and lc..and cheap as u could pick up a whole bike for about 500 bucks then just make a carrier for the rear brake and a mount for the master cylinder..

The fork spacing is generally wider, so that alieviates the cooling issue but that may cause interference with the tank unless you reduce the steering lock
I have fitted RWU ZX9 forks and triples to my spare LC but I did have to reconstruct the steering tube and bearing races to accept them
