2 Strokes Down Under

Hi all on this forum, just joined, into LC's and powervalves.

I'm a Pom, been in South Australia (Adelaide) nearly three years now, like the country very much but had to offload my bikes before I came here and missing motorcycling terribly.

Have owned (in the past ) a few 'valves and one very early "pre-tie-bar" LC.
Would, more than any other bike, like to get another RD, but current job situation and funds don't allow that yet, so I'll hang around here like a fart in a phonebox and absorb the stroker scene vicariously

I'd like to catch up with any other Adelaide-ish based RD owners, or anyone else into strokers for that matter, so if yer in the general area let me know.

Seems to me like the LC scene here is gearing up a bit, hope you guys don't see the inflationary madness that made RD's unreasonably expensive in the UK, but I know they are getting more expensive, but then so are all 70's and 80's bikes.

Looks like the RD's and LC's didn't have quite the cultural significance over here that they did in the UK, so fingers crossed it will stay sane here! From what i'v e seen an awful lot of the interest is from classic racing, which does make a bit of sense.

Anyhow, that's me, nice to find a stroker site with an active community

hi BRG, welcome, im only new here myself and from brisbane, ive nearly completed my 81 350lc after a year of bringing it back to life, i know what you mean about big prices for parts etc but unfortuneately theres very little available here and what is is usually more expensive,i have to source most /all parts from UK/USA, good luck

Welcome to the forum BRG,I'd echo what Ken has said,parts mostly from o/s is a pita but usually cheaper ( cept the postage)
You can still find cheap "parts' bikes around & rebuild,just got to get out there & start looking lol.
I only got back into the 2strokes about 4 mnths ago after a 20 year spell,Im now up to #5 "parts " bike lmao.....

Hi BRG, good to see you jump right in.
A bit the same with me, had nothing a couple of years ago and now just built it up mainly from ebay and other forumers who have some stuff left over.
I notice regularly bikes come up in Adders and wish I have the ability to get them, so I think you should do nicely wiht a bit of patience.
Will keep the eyes open.

Been there and done the Pom2Aus move myself a good few years ago now, but also sold up before i moved and wished id brought them with me, sigh... still ive been rebuilding my 'collection' the past few years... anyway, welcome aboard, lets have some pics!

DOC03, well, if you see something on Ebay or Gumtree down here I'm happy to try and help you out. Have spare garage space if you wanted a temporary store location pending pick-up.

JonW, how long ago did you come out to Aus? I have a mate who came over 6 months before me, left his 10 or so bikes in UK, bro in law supposed to send them on.... he's still waiting... and spewing about it... but at least he didn't sell them, so he's a good step ahead of us!

Ken, LB, hmm, I reckon any cheap complete-ish bike is worth picking up if you have funds and an understanding (unaware?) wife... but as per other threads, boy, it can cost a lot to restore a bike. especially if you get to regrinding corroded forks, rebuilding motors and all that. Bugger it though, would rather crawl into the position of having a knackered RD in the shed than none at all.
Surprising how parts do keep coming up though, and RD's are so popular in the UK you can do almost anything if you have the money, as someone somewhere has worked out a product or process and is selling it. Even down to, for example, Zeeltronic electronics in eastern europe.
Seen $600 GRP petrol tanks on ebay here in Aus, not sure if they're road legal, but they're an option.
