I have heard they leak at the join from the header where the spring holds them together. Some guys just weld them up.

Yeah they might have been doing it since Don and Gary were around but they still had and still haven't a clue what they are doing.
There is a very good Cycle World article on what are todays bling bling vmx item the DG head. CW tested every aftermarket head on the market back in the day on a 125 Elsinore guess which head lost the most power?
The DG CR250M pipe turns a already peaky unridable bike into a even peakier unridable bike. On a 125 stock 77 pipe outperforms every off the shelf aftermarket pipe ever made.
Noise ain't power :D

heehee, knew that would get a good response out of ya Lozza :D

I do know that a lot of the older pipes made bikes go backwards, it was never a huge market here but 50cc destricted pipes were all the rage when i was 16, and most were just awful. noisy, peaky and almost all lost power. mental when you think about it. todays pipes are usually much better.

Some guys (one guy on the uk forums is a prime example) loved their DGs, but i reckon they have never tried anything modern, and they are not in their teens anymore, so noise and peakyness is now a chore not the challenge as it used to be.

Hmmm. Thanks for the input guys. Lots of opinions. Don't like the quality and performance concerns that seem to be out there about this pipe.

More research required...

ohhh... wish id known that before importing pipes... and yes, Id love to give em a go. Ive tried a bunch of brands now and have found quite a few differences between them even with my seat of the pants dyno, which is what its all about really, big hp was never my goal...
