well i had a brand new DG chamber originally made to fit a mid 80s cr125 sitting around..i bought to fit to a dt200R i had but long sold.. i read on a forum a guy used this pipe to good success.. well
my dt200L the pipe is on the opposite side LH.. so i cut the BRAND NEW chamber into bits to make it fit.. all done
the result well as u would expect quite different..firstly sounds great and really crisp off throttle and all seems very responsive.. one riding it felt the same but even smoother at low revs . with the stock pipe the power was all very early..very lineal almost 4 strokish ,not really a power ban as such, but instant but all over very soon..
with this pipe power was normal then flatten out where the other pipe would peek..but then it gets on the pipe suddenly you have a big smack and great top end just keeps pulling...
i did a lil jetting but still its too rich in the middle oddly enough..
another bonus is i lost 3 kgs..!! in the swap..bike now down to 107kgs full of fuel..!!
but is it better.??.still a lil on the fence.. the stock pipe u have great torque and mid range and no real top end which make a great lil street bike wheelstands at the blip of a throttle..but the DG u loose mid range but make much more power over all just further up and it revs soooo much more now..ahh the compromises lol

Sounds pretty typical of pipe swaps.

Some one will correct me, but I think the reason the 125 pipe worked on the 200 is that the stroke is the same or very similar. The same reason RD250 and 350 pipes swap with good effect. Stroke is the dominant factor in determining the chamber's spec's.

The other effects of saving weight and changing the 'note' or also typical. Moving the powerband around is also typical. It normally takes a careful tuning of all the factors to get an marked overall improvement.

I'm glad you are enjoying the DT. It's a great and underrated trailie.

yeah ur right and thats why i thought it would work..
i raised the clip today and it has made an improvement.. its so smooth and bottom end is great..great usable power just off throttle..and still torque..it still flattens out in the middle but top end is fantastic..im happy..!! great over all improvement

Erm no the reason why it worked is the DT pipe is a heavy POS and anything is a improvement on that. Stroke has nothing to do with the pipe spec, more the rpm you want it to work in, then there is proportions. Heavy pipes take longer to heat up and heat in the pipe is what makes it work. Light gauge pipes have a satisfying "ting ting ting' sound.
DT motor is a true gem, running gear is a bit heavy and suspension pretty shit for serious off road work but a very competant all round bike.
