Hi all, I'm new to the forums, thought this might be the best place for my question.
I'm interested in finding an RD400 Daytona thats been imported to Australia. I have no idea on pricing since I've only started looking the past few weeks, and havent seen one listed downunder.
Can anyone help with ballpark figures and if they are seen at all advertised in Australia? I know they werent released in the country, but I'm guessing people did import.

I'm fairly sure they were an Aussie market bike, there just aren't huge numbers of them out there. They were kind of a transitional model to complete the aircooled era and usher in the liquid cooled generation.
From what I can see there's a lot of flux in prices for all the RD/RZ and all old stroker ranges as people who may not have previously been interested get on the bandwagon and pick up on the fashion. Might make it tricky to work out a steady market value.
I'd say it's the old adage, work out what you think one's worth to you, keep your powder dry until one comes up that meets your criteria?
Good luck, they do turn up from time to time, seen them in the trader type magazines. Be ready to restore one though.

You dont want a US Daytona as they have anti pollution crap on the carbs and still run points. The G which is the last of the aircooled bikes and is the Daytona shape was sold here and there are a few Daytona coloured bikes here also. Prices are high for a good one around 7k but you can be lucky. Heres a picture of my G model.

Thanks all
I've found a 1978 RD400E, the silver/blue in mint condition. I think it might be the one, and it's stock just how I want it.
I want to be able to ride the bike on weekends, sounds like the daytona is just going to give me issues with stock carbs and rest of the emission control equipment.

About 6 months before the RD350LC was released in Australia I saw a new RD400G in a Yamaha store in Sydney.

Only the US Daytona's had the anti pollution crap, they had the 2VO prefix. If you find a 3M4 prefix thats the one you want.
