TDR500
Re: TDR500
There's an article on this one in either Classic Bike or Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics, not sure which, I tend to get both.
Ex UK, now in Adelaide. LC250/350. DT175. Shed full of sh1t in the vague form of dismantled rusty RD’s and RZ’s.
Re: TDR500
An amazing build but I wonder what sort of ride it would be - could you keep the front wheel on the ground?Greasemeup wrote:Some nutter put an RG500 motor in a TDR chassis
Yummy!

Re: TDR500
RZ (not RG) 500 motor! That would be sacrilege!
Re: TDR500
It would be a terrible waste of a TDR chassis putting an RG motor in it, if you ask me. Like putting a Lada motor in a Ferrari!

Lada is too kind, Trabant I reckon suits better,,,,DuncanB wrote:It would be a terrible waste of a TDR chassis putting an RG motor in it, if you ask me. Like putting a Lada motor in a Ferrari!

Re: TDR500
Factor in the rebuild and buy it anyway. I would. Love TDRs

It's being fixed, I will find out at the end of the month.

Re: TDR500
That's weird, there must be 2 nutters out there! The foam filters on the side look like the disc valve car us are under them..
Here is a write up off old eBay UK ad.
After much deliberation I have finally decided to sell my pride and joy it took me a good few years to gether to where she is now and I have had 4 years trouble free biking since then including 2 trips to the TT and one to the Northwest 200
I have owned the original TDR since the late 1990's and always fancied one with more poke ...so I built one
Yes the add is correct it she is a TDR500 (well 565cc actually) the engine is an RG 500 board out to 565cc and race tuned by Bob Fanham (a two stroke wizard) he actually totally rebuilt the engine changing any parts that needed it.
The frame is a one off designed around the engine but I wanted to maintain the original TDR look and it obviously needed to be stronger, I adjusted the rake and trail angle slightly to make sure she would handle.
The expansions are based on Swabrick dimensions I made them from one of his loose kits again to match the original look, they are race cans but not stupidly loud so no problem with the MOT , not sure about the swing arm I found it in a secondhand shop and it was the size I needed , I think it is of a reverse cylinder TZR
Suspension is Ducati based but I extended the front forks by 75 mm to maintain the TDR style geometry the wheels are Dymags with carbon fibre rims these were fully reconditioned by Dymag just before I bought them .
The belly pan doubles as a reserve fuel tank to give a reasonable range, the graphics were drawn up by me and cut locally so their unique the number one being a bit of a tip of the cap to Kenny Roberts two stroke flat track monster.
I frequently get asked what’s she like to ride:
Never fails to put a fat smile on my face she is obviously very fast if you know two strokes and especially RG’s then you know what I am talking about, my riding buddies both have fire blades and she holds her own on the big roads and there’s but no competition when the roads get a bit twisty as that’s where this bike really shines.
But obviously being a race tuned RG you have to accept that the real fun is above 7500 RPM and then it just carries on she will bimble around town merrily but you just have to adapt you riding style a bit ( RGs were not very good below 3000 rpm anyway).
She handles very well I think anyway but she is a lively lady don’t expect it to be like a modern blade or R1 she is from back in the day.
I have changed the tax class so it’s all correct and shows as being a 499cc on the Reg doc I still need to change the colour as it still says blue (the original when I first had it) I tried to change the colour and add the RG engine number but I received a letter from the DVLA saying I had to get an AA man or a policeman to verify the engine number by looking at the bike!!
I haven't got round that but if does not affect anything anyway I still have the letter if you want to see it.
She has 5 months tax and will have 12 months MOT there are a couple very minor issues you need to know about, the rear wheel seems to lose a bit of air over a bit of time apparently this can be common fault on these type Dymags (so the tyre fitter told me) although it does not bother me and the lightness of the wheels more than make up for and fuel sometimes drips from the carb overflow pipe after a ride, this is common RG problem though and not unique to this bike.
I think that’s about it if you have any questions give me a bell 07866416103.
Given that I can’t replace it there will be no solo test rides without suitable financial security , check with me first please.
Buyer to collect and payment in cash with 100 pound deposit via paypal
Oh and I have advertised my bike in other places so I reserve the right to end the auction early.
Thanks for looking

Yeah must be a different bike.
Those pics are definitely of a RZ500 engine.

Re: TDR500
Its another bike, different take on the same idea though.
the one in the mag is a TDR with an RD500 motor, "Gibson" (UK) pipes.

I blame Kenny Roberts for the confusion!
