tzr Tidy up,

G'day race fans. Today i pulled the engine out of the tzr i bought 3 weeks ago. Needed to be done to replace the engine mount dampners. The gear lever would move up and down 20+mm with my foot under the lever rolling on and of the Throttle, with the tank of i could see the engine moving whilst kicking the starter. parts are ordered.
The fuel tank had some rust in it. twice whilst riding the motor would stumble and when i pulled over the carbs where overflowing from rust in the needle and seat. (glad i took a back pack with tools). I've prepped the tank, will seal it in the next days.
The front disc is is heavely grooved and now is only 3-3.5mm thick. so this needs to be replaced. Been looking at metal gear front disc for 180 delivered and using there sintered brakes, Any opinion on there product? Also will fit a braided front line.
The chambers are not original and i have no idea of brand. I'd say they are of japanese origin? They do fit well and powers good, peaking around 10g.The mufflers are junk, they are rz350n i believe, not in very good condition. I'm looking at Tyga end cans on ebay, the price is good and they look like they will fit? Any opions on them?http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tyga-Perform ... ae7&_uhb=1
With the motor out i pulled out one of the reed blocks. The reeds are fiber, again not sure of the brand. Also discovered the front sprocket is 15t i believe 14t is standard. Chain and rear sprocket are in good order so i think i'll try a 14t up front then go from there.
I would like to pull the cylinders of to see if they've had work and check the condition of pistons and bores. The motor runs well compression is at 125psi and the budget is so small i'll leave it alone for now and just fix up the above mentioned problems and tidy everything up. This is my first tzr and i'm impressed with the design of the frame and the lay out of the engine. Looking forward to getting it back together and taking it to the track.

I fitted a pair of Metal Gear rotors and pads to my RGV fronted RZ500 about a year ago and am happy so far.

The Tyga silencers are excellent. Also get the mounting flanges to weld to your pipes.

thanks for the thumbs up on the silencers and rotors gents. I'll be ordering both. Today i scratched around the scaffold yard i work in and found some threaded rod and tube to make a tool to remove the engine mount dampners. I cut an old 3/8 drive spark plug socket down and removed some of the outer socket on the bench grinder to size it .5mm under the outer diameter of the new dampner. Some heat and a few adjustments the flogged rear mounts are out.

Finnished replacing the front and rear engine mounts, took a few hours but i enjoyed doing it and now have the tools. I stripped back the old layers of paint from the chambers with a Nylon stripping wheel then gave them a fresh coat of heat proof gloss. Also sanded and painted the engine cradle then degreased and touched up the paint on the engine.
The fuel tank was sealed using a KBS tank sealing kit, the result looks good, hopefully it will give many years of service.
Should get the engine back in the frame today. Next thing to do is strip the carburettors and fuel tap, clean the chain, replace front sprocket with a 14t from the 15t that was on it. Then it's wait for newTyga silencers, metal gear front brake rotor and braded brake line. If all goes to plan i will be riding it again within a week.

Looks like you are making great progress.
Have you thought about cleaning the pipes while you have them off the bike?
I went the caustic soda path last time and it shifted a lot of muck.
Also did you look at the powervalve while you had the engine out?
I worked on mine today and it was in bad shape.

G'day hrc14h. The chambers are mostly free of carbon, the inlets and outlets show no build up and they are very light. (yes greaser they are fat) I did take of the spigot mounts for chambers and scraped away some build up. I shone a torch into the cylinders, the power valves, pistons and combustion chambers all look clean, from this inspection i'm assuming the engine doesn't have many k's on it since it's last rebuild. The bikes history is a little unknown. I bought it from my mate who aquired it 3 years ago, he only road it a few times. Anyway the engines back in the bike and the carbs are mounted up. Waiting now for new silencers.

Today i got the bike running again. The Tank sealer i;m very happy with. it's a hammertone silver, fuel in the tank now looks crystal clear. Carbs like it to. I put the old mufflers on so i could take it for a ride. The gearbox operation since changing the engine dampners is fantastic. I can now change up and down through the gears rolling on and of the throttle. I would reccomend reniewing dampners on any bike thats done allot of k's or shows sign of movement. Metal gear rotor and pads arrived today, the tyga silencers should be here soon.

Recieved some parts in the last few days. Today the Tyga mufflers arrived. I asked for decals/stickers, they sent me 15 stickers + key rings. The package arrived 1 week after ordering them. Very impressed with the product. Will be welding on the new spigots tommorrow.
Think i've decided on a new paint scheme. White like mboddy"s race bike with decals, Maybe it will be the tyga performance 1kt with all the decals they sent me.

G'day mark. Had to cross town and visit a mate with the gun scales. Disc weight is 1693.0 grams. I'll be fitting it this weekend with goodrich braided line and sintered pads.

On my race bike small amounts of weight can all add up and so it is important to know which parts are lighter.
Sometimes it is worthwhile to have the heavier part like my 15mm front axle which is more rigid even though it is 100gm heavier.

1695gm is a pretty good weight. It is a tad lighter than the original which was very light for it's time.
The only one that I have found so far that is lighter is the Brembo ORO. It is 1625gm but it gets it via a narrower swept area. It is much more expensive.
I can use the ORO with the original calliper but not with the Brembo F08 calliper I use on the TDR and TZR 2XT race bikes. I like the Brembo F08 because it has a longer leading edge which gives it better initial bite than the 4 piston callipers.
