I have just obtained an RD350 ex drag bike and am chasing some advice around fuelling for the bike.
the motor has 66mm DT175MX pistons, 34mm powerjet carby's, TZ CDI ignition, RZ reed cages with fibre reeds, barrels machined down 5mm (off the base) to suit the different pin height of the 175 pistons and seems to have heaps of compression. I am not sure about the rods, but crank is possibly Hoeckle.
Carby's have 280 main jets and 6 series needles, I haven't stripped them further to find more info.
The P/O suggested that the bike ran on methanol or the avgas combination so my question is how do you tell if it is set up for these fuels, I plan to use the motor in my P5 racebike next year and they are only allowed 98ron fuel.
I understand that compression is a factor in designing a bike for methanol use and this engine has heaps but am yet to actually measure it.
Does anyone know what compression a two stroke bike set up for methanol uses and conversly would a normally fuelled ported and squish adjusted motor's compression be around. (170PSI for a race bike ?)
Thanks in advance.
