Power Valve Left Side Cover Question RZ 250/350
Power Valve Left Side Cover Question RZ 250/350
Dumb question, because I'm, well, dumb.
Was getting oil on my left boot and noticed it coming out the bottom of my left side power valve cover. Bought some gasket material to make one, but when I took off the cover I saw that there seems to be a hole at the bottom of the part the cover attaches to so a gasket wouldn't make a difference it seems.
So, is this normal or is there something else wrong like there shouldn't be oil there in the first place?

Ya, thanks, I remember that now. But it seems to be working anyway...

It seems that your photo shows the pulley housing - there shouldn't be any oil in there. I presume the "oil" you mention is unburnt fuel-oil mixture, as you may see at the exhaust tailpipe. If so, it is likely that your PV O-ring or special seal is blowing. There may be advanced wear on the shaft of the PV spool or bush, which may also cause the seal to blow (rather than a defect with the seal itself).Lowflying wrote:Hey Guys,So, is this normal or is there something else wrong like there shouldn't be oil there in the first place?
You could probably investigate by removing the pulley from the end of the PV spool shaft and then remove the pulley housing. This would give you sufficient access to check the special seal and see if there is any play in the PV spool.
Let us know how you get on!

James

Thanks James. I think you have the answer. My limited understanding that comes from limited research suggests exactly what you say. There shouldn't be oil in there so something ain't right! Sigh. Looking at the manual it seems the whole powervalve assembly is rife with fiddly bits. I guess I'll have to dive in and learn something about this. I guess it's not rocket science but that doesn't mean it's not beyond me.

Its not too hard, just don't do what I did last week and twist the head off the rusted in pulley housing holding screw. Face-palm.
Ex UK, now in Adelaide. LC250/350. DT175. Shed full of sh1t in the vague form of dismantled rusty RD’s and RZ’s.
