Importing a bike from the UK.

Post by w3a51l »

Does anyone have experience of this?

What are some of the pitfalls and traps for new players?

A mate saw an 84 RZ for sale in the UK that seems like a good 'un, but after Get Routed charge for the shipping and the Customs Duty is paid ( price unknown ATM ) I'm unsure whether the grand or so I'll save over buying one from Scotts M/Cs will be worth the heartache.

And if GovCo decide to spoil my party..... :(

Hi I know of a few older imports from UK and even a super cheap Triumph or Norton ends up very pricy landed here and a hastle if you dont have someone in the UK to handle the whole thing and you can deal with customs here. The last guy I spoke to said it was $2500 and a real headache to get it over here. Maybe he was ripped of but he isnt the first talking of similar money. Hope that helps a bit. Link

traps

saw a new article the other day of a guy that bought a Motox bike from ebay USA , and when it landed they put it into storage

from the article it took about 3 weeks and cost him $2500 AUD on top of the $2K US that he paid for it

so the moral is make sure all your paperwork is in order before it leaves
