Another eBay 350LC, poor condition tho

Post by DOC03 »

I went and saw this today ( just out of interest ) ;

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/120864334334 ... 1423.l2649

Its in pretty crook nic, athough the guy says it runs. Would need a lot of work and $$ to get it rideable though, but if anyones intersted...
The numbers match and most of it is there, no tank, no oil res, different kicker and needs a totally new seat, side and tail panels are crap, forks are pitted and fair amount of rust, no brake lever, clutch lever and mech stuffed. Had compression and gears clicked through but... some dodgy looking gasket stuff.

He said he def wants $1500 and asked what id give him. I said wouldnt pay more than $1000 for it, but I reckon $500 would be closer to fair. It does need a lot of work.

I hear you Pete, I reckon hes chancing his arm, but it is a 350 and it does run, those things are in its favour. the lack of parts, especially seat and tank, is a huge issue tho. To be honest for less money youd get a non runner and i doubt youd spend any less fixing this one up than a non runner as you will need to do everything anyway. but... with no-history running engines being sold for 'asking prices' of 1k, frames being 150-300 and wheels at 60-80ea, plus all the other stuff, buying a complete bike is a good idea. but... no tool tray, no coil cover, no uncut mudguard, no uncut rear subframe would mean hits on the price of course... I think these days you need to know what youre doing when you buy one, not all 1500 buck LCs are worth 1500, some are 500 and some are 2-3k... its a scary world.

exactly jon, you hit the nail on the head, i payed just over 1100 for mine,he gave me 260 off cause i quess he felt guilty about the description, anyway i have had to almost replace everypart less frame swinger, tank ,seat and a few other bits, close to 8 grand it owes me, but at the time i didnt know any better, but with my new found knowdledge and appatite for these bikes i can go in confidently now and look at a bike and cost the resto to a degree of accuracy compared to before at least. this bloke i got the bike from told me how much he knew about bikes and good this one was, knowing what i know now he was full of shite.

Frank Is a good bloke but does chance his arm with his asking prices. Leave it a few weeks and if its still there go back and Make him a proper offer. I paid $500 for mine one owner but it was siezed and rough but all there. That was from a shop also. $1500, dreaming and as for running that doesnt mean its not rooted.

Exactly right about running doesnt mean not rooted !
I was thinking of dropping back in after the auction and seeing if he wanted to talk, def think somewhere between $500 and $800 would be the right money, for me anyway.

I agree Pete, but in this rising market for LCs who knows whats right and whats not. for me its the missing parts that kill the price for this one, if they were there it would be worth 1500 in parts...

Guys, you have a very good point about sellers chancing their arm, I've been haunting ebay and other places for a while, and I'm surprised how many bikes get offered again and again, with a slowly dropping price or stories of buyers not going through with the deal.

I think the moral is keep your nerve and, like DOC03, offer what you think it's really worth. That particular LC looks a bit Donald Ducked to me, but then again it depends what spares you have on your shed shelves.
Again as DOC hints at, you're in for an engine rebuild (of one degree or another) with an old stroker whether it "runs" or not, at least if you want to be sure it isn't going to let go expensively.

I think as motorcyclists generally/nationally/internationally we should try to stop talking about rising markets or future prices for this model or that model. It just leads to sellers trying to flog everything for next years prices now, or worse.
This is a newish phenomenon, are we investors or motorcyclists? All this cashed up bollocks of whatever popular model is going up may be a reality but we should try to avoid stoking it up even more.

Bloody tired of certain magazines talking about bikes being investments, or what they'll be worth in a year or two or three. I'll buy a bloody stock market mag if that's what I'm into. One of the mags is reprinting it's own old adverts from previous years and saying "wish we'd bought this or that", it's all bloody silly.

Ooh, that was cathartic. I'll bugger off and get pissed now

Not in a position to put a serious bid on right now (not the level it will probably get to) so if you guys are, then please don't forgoe anything on my account
