A good price so far I would have thought. All very nice, correct and original, but not particularly presentable. And a two fiddy .

$3125 , I might try the market with mine - to finance some of my stalled for lack-of-funds projects

I think a good 250 is not a bad purchase if it is original. Most were converted to 350 front ends and top ends so a clean one is harder to find. Thats about top dollar at the moment, I still would'nt pay that mind you.

I recently finished building a 78 Rd400 into a bike that I prefer the look of rather than a faithful purist restoration,, I think the orig builds are a dime a dozen IMO.

Yes ken I threw it on ebay to feel the water it got just over 7k but I did not sell it. I am at Bracken Ridge.

Yummmmmmm, very nice . I can see why you didn't sell it even at 7k - but 7k is an excellent and unexpected price. It seems like the market might be edging it way up (at least compared to my expectations - I've been surprised and impressed a few time recently).

gday, i think the original ones are very sort after, mines a restored one and hasnt matching numbers and even though mine to me at least looks much fresher i wouldnt think i would go close to getting that for mine even though i must have spent that much on it.

That's what I would have thought ( why crappy OEM gets such good money I have no idea ). But Stankslappers price seems to belie that.....

I might try my luck and test the market - although I did tell myself it was a 'keeper' .

Well up until recently I was lucky enough to own a original Daytona 400 of which I sold for 9k. It was a beautiful bike and went to a collector in Syd. But I still love my modified versions of the two strokes, as they to me, are obviously more unique.
And when I see people paying 6-8k for a sr500 four stroke yammy or 15k for a Deus, I really shake my head.

that was a nice 400 that, when it was for sale i wished i had more money, i bet you will miss getting the rag out and wipeing it down every week,anyway i have to agree with you about the sr500, for awhile i thought there must have been something special about them but now i cant figure out what it would be, are they at least very reliable?, i couldnt imaging it being any more reliable than my 81 xj650,
let us know if your going to test the the market with yours ossyelce so i can keep an eye on it,

I can concede $9000 for the Daytona, and I can see it as pride of place in a collection. But that LC needs another $5000 put into it to be near as presentable.

Is matching number an original condition worth that difference?

i think matching numbers is desireable but to me its not the be all and end all, my lc was 5E0-001981 and the frame number was 5E0-001986 ,not exactly those numbers but close, i had to replace the upper and lower crank cases due to chain damage and another thing or 2 and the only few i could seem to source here were nearly as bad so i imported a near mint set from the UK and now its engine # is 4L0-******, so it will always draw critasism from the purists but im not to concerned about that anymore and if it presents a hassle for me to register it down the track i will cross that hurdle when i get there, even if it means getting some talented metal worker to change the numbers back to original as a last resort,

The funny thing about eBay Ken is that nearly all of the bikes I have sold get negotiated after the auction and very few get sold on ebay. I have concluded it is a great exposure method , but not for the final sale.

that doesnt surprise me at all macca, another thing i found is its fairly rare for a bike to look as good in the flesh as it does in the photo,plus the descriptions arent very honest either, some sellers say no timewasters but just as often the seller is the timewaster, a typical description is "has a few marks consistent with its age" , when really they should have said "somebody has taken a hammer to it and dragged it behind the car " . ive bought 3 bikes on ebay that ive kept and a couple more that ive just walked away from after winning the auction,
