I am restoring one at the moment and believe it or not I actually scored three bikes in one hit.
If you really want to upset those owners they are missing the decal off the rear guard.

They look fantastic... I just spent 3 years (other commitments got in the way) rebuilding an 1967 Yamaha YL2C traimaster, and was amazed how easy it was to find parts. Most came from the US, off ebay.

What was the total number modified or sold? It would only be a hundred or so wasn't it? For one to survive I find amazing, to have two restored to a 9.995 points concourse is incredible, but now you say you have three - well I'm left speechless. :P

I bet you will be interested in the price it fetches. I think it is 'beyond the pail' but if I was selling it I would start about there - see what the market thinks. The rarity most certainly warrants the price - but the missing bits.......

These are definitely Aussie only and maybe S.A. only. For r resto a lot of the bits will be hand made I would guess. Maybe EPA Police might enlighten.

Engines part would be shared with the YDS2/3's I would imagine, but things like the exhaust are likely to be model specific, and unobtainium.

The gold paint looks great doesn't it. Here's the street version, YDS2.

And the Green....

And the red.......

Gee I reckon they look kool. If I was put on the stop and made choose between the three colours I'm sure I would break down and cry  .

They are basically a DS1 base so the motor is the same with a revised gearbox. The DS2 has a lot of upgrades and parts may look the same but dont interchange. These bikes had really a weak gearbox and kick gear, all three of mine are destroyed.
There was only between 20 and 30 Liberty's made and no one is really sure and there are around 8-10 around today. One of mine is off to the UK to be restored and the other will be sold off here when I have mine done.
SOme people say that Frank Johns brought in complete DS1 bikes and then stripped what he didnt want and replaced with his own parts and the factory had no hand in it only agreeing to supply the bikes. Having studied my three bikes and speaking to the previous owner who had been researching these bikes for 30 years I do not agree with that. Firstly some of the frame mods could only have been done by stripping the bike back to the frame and then repainting the whole thing, the parts specific to the liberty are the same parts fitted to the C range of bikes that were sent to the US mostly and the final piece of evidence is the existance of a factory parts manual, why would the factory issue a manual for a bike that some bushman was hacking up in his shed in South Australia.
But to be fair some of the workmanship does point to low volume runs and the use of what ever was around. All three of my bikes are slightly different and the VIN numbers are well apart. So they were made as required not in one hit.

Wow 8) , they are all good resto prospects but particularly the last one. Have you started the resto? You can still see the red dust of the outback engrained.

I am doing the Brown one as its the earliest Vin and best condition. It was caked in red dust even the crank was covered. At the moment the frame etc has been powder coated and the motor is almost rebuilt all the paint work is half done and the tinware I have to drop off to be chromed and zinc plated $$$. The green bike was actually used on the Oakley military base and was modified slightly to take two people and be a better distance bike. The Liberty was designed to run at 5mph in top gear all day so you could climb up a wall in first with that rear sprocket.

That would be about its only pretense to being a dirt bike   .

That exhaust likes pretty good. Indeed it looks like you could resto at least two of them, if you are keen.
