2t Expansion Chamber technology

Post by fred99999au »

Hi All (he said looking squarely at 2tinstitute). Just been having fun in the yard with a DT175 pipe, some metho, a camping gas cylinder and stove, a portable propane torch, an air compressor and some barbecue coal.

The PO of this bike seemed to be using heavy crude in a premix and consequently the pipe was clagged quite badly. They also had a go at fixing a leak with an arc welder and successfully created 100 more leaks. Which they tried to fix with silicone. Unsuccessfully.

So after stuffing around with the gas burner and metho and the air compressor and barbecue coal, I have successfully removed the paint from the outside of the pipe, the crap from the inside to reveal what Twinrock was talking about with his DT200 hybrid pipe, the perforated mesh.

Should I have a go at removing this and any of the other restrictors in the pipe? Would this be beneficial to power without being too detrimental to the noise output? I need to weld this thing back together anyway, so a little more welding isnt a big inconvenience.

Just wondering.

Cheers

Fred.

Well, I started to take the mesh out to find that the mesh has fibreglass matting in behind it. And it appears to be welded under the first washer in the 'expansion' part of the pipe.

There is a piccy of the inside of the pipe on the YamahaIT forum here: http://www.yamahait.com.au/forum/index. ... 053.0.html

Mine had the bottom curved bit cut off so I have been operating through this hole, but really, all I am doing is making a big bloody mess with a cold chisel.

I might have a crack with the plasma cutter if I can get the torch in there.

Actually, I seem to remember that the DT200 is a different pipe design all together.
