If I need to take a bike out to blow the cobwebs out I will just call the area rep and tell him where I am going the route etc and thats it all covered. But I do the round the block 5k runs also and dont worry about it. The vic scheme is a bit different from my understanding, something like 40 days a year you can ride the bike once you log it in the bikes log book that you carry with you at all times.
Also as a matter of interest a double decker bus cost $56 a year to rego and can carry 50 odd passengers.

To be honest I know one Yamaha collector who could do with a double decker bus to house his collection, then run 10km from the 'movable garage' as he saw fit

Yep, Vic club reg is dependent on the club to a degree as to what is accepted, but the rules are a little different than NSW.

We have 45 or 90 day permits and you must fill out the log book before you set off and you must carry it with you. $69.30 for the first registration which includes plate and log book. Dunno about 90 days.

You can purchase an extra 45 after the forst 45 if you require.

You don't need to be on a club ride, just fill out the logbook. I have heard that you can ride it within 100m from the driveway at the registered address but cant find this in the rules until after you have used your 45 or 90 days.

Depending on the club as to how strict they are with the inspection as well.

My first one is an IT400D and it is nearly original. Read into that what you will.

My understanding is that all the states with the exception of Victoria has the same laws. In other words you can do a ride from NSW across QLD etc... no issues.
if you wish to undertake a ride that takes you through Victoria...you need to apply for a day or number of days permit. I saw somewhere that a VEMC is organising an event through the Great Ocean Road...then you will need to apply for X many days of permit with the Vic authorities.

The Feds started 30 years ago to have one nation one road law. Despite bevies of $150,000pa pubic servants meeting four times a year they still can't get their shit together. Spare me please

I hear your frustration, but I like ours better at least for rides within the state.

Ride when you like, and to where you like. No need to tell anyone, just fill out date your name where you're going and go. No ringing club secretaries who may or may not be there etc etc etc, bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.

If you go into politics to push your unified national agenda, pleas make it Vic rules not NSWs rules or expand it to include this feature and make it national.

Nah, invent a new rule if you get in (I will vote for you!). The UK had a rolling 25 year old rule, where you just got free Rego and could do what you liked with the vehicle. I had a Triumph Spitfire and an Alfa Romeo, both just needed the Pink Slip and Insurance and I was done. They did stop the rolling at 1972 in the end, which was annoying but the idea was sound; most people with old vehicles look after them like family rather than commuter fodder etc.

So... which club is the best to join in NSW in regards to ringing up to book in a non-club organised ride? I've got a bunch of 500cc two strokes coming up for 30 years and I'd love to have the cheaper rego / greenslips.

The VIC scheme is a better one. I find that I dont ride my club plate bikes at all really as its just a hassle. You dont really want ot be calling some dude up at 6am on a Sunday to book a ride.

Every club invites all registered clubs to their individual rides. Given the number of clubs around....you are never short of a rid to somewhere ...allbe it that you are an invited guest. The only issue as I see it is if you want to go riding off on your own or a few mate. Really if you think of it, even with 45 days of riding under some state rules....that is almost four weekends each month for any calendar year. Judging by the responses to a few rides of late, it seems not everyone can afford to commit to one ride a month let alone four rides a month.
If you have a number of bikes and a number of them qualify for Club rego....why wouldn't you?

Exactly. I just read the Vicroads website and you do not need an entry in the log book for anywhere within 100 metres of the garaged address either.

So, it looks like the IT4hunjie will be trying ITs best to remove mozzies up and down the street this weekend and there aint a damned thing the neighbours can do about IT.
