I'm a bit OCD when it comes to collecting missing bits.
Read some interesting posts on tanks which was informative thanks guys. The guy in Brisbane who also does old car radiators seems like a good option for the rusty tank.
Anybody pick a good source of decals for the 250?

well done so far, saw on gumtree recently a tank, seat, seat cowl with grab rail, rear light etc complete with flashers/no plate holder...was asking $500 for the lot
Re: And so it begins - long term RZ Resto story
I saw that, gently suggested a lower price and he got a little grumpy ;-)
Anyone who has tank repair info please put it up, I have two tanks but they're both badly battered.
Getting good examples of more failure prone items only comes a couple of ways, usually get lucky or stump up lots of money.
Did anyone pick up if those apparently hand made tanks from India were any good?

Ex UK, now in Adelaide. LC250/350. DT175. Shed full of sh1t in the vague form of dismantled rusty RD’s and RZ’s.

Re: And so it begins - long term RZ Resto story
I have a tank which was repaired by a plasterer I think (based on the bog filling the bottom), which I am going to attempt a repair of. The idea will be to set it up in a jig of some kind, cut the arse out of it with a plasma and weld new steel in. Either TIG or MIG.
As you can see I haven't come to any startling conclusions as yet, and have had eleventy billion people saying just buy another as yours will explode and kill you, but I think with enough planning and care it will be OK.
Will take some photos if you like when I make an attempt. Wont be for a little while as I have a couple of dirties in need of attention for Vinduro purposes.

'just buy another' hmm... only from people who dont know how hard it is to find a better tank than you have now. I have two RZ tanks I am repairing at the mo, neither are attractive and having just stripped one, I found that it was a mess of bog and rust repairs, but it does hold fuel well now that I've lined it with a KBS coatings kit.

Hi
I'm new on this forum although it seems I may have registered some time ago and lost my password
I too have started an RZ restoration, which I began documenting on RDLC Crazy forum.
Slightly worse condition than yours PK but more complete.
I took lots of photos before I pulled it apart so if you need anything confirming just shout.
Tanks........the bane of these period Yams. i found a great one in Japan but they won't ship fuel or oil contaminated goods and by the time I found someone over there to bid it had gone
Fortunately I just found one in the UK which is now mine and appears to be very good condition if somewhat expensive (still cheaper than the Indian option which i considered.)
How are your swing arm suspension links ? (the L shape ones that fit into the bushes on the side of the swing arm ?
Cleaning mine up they are pretty worn but are available in the USA at a price. Wondering if its possible to refurbish ?
Here is a photo of the area of your bike that may be missing something ?

Good to know another one is being rebuilt Jools. I will check your thread on RDLCCRazy. My 1985 F1 thread is on rzrd500.com and the removing of the paint from the tank to see what I have underneath is here: http://www.rzrd500.com/phpBB3/viewtopic ... &start=600
Doglegs... Jools, NK Racing does refurbed units, and you can still get em new it seems from the American online parts dealers.
