I've bought two bikes interstate which have compliance plates but no number plates and no documented history (The Minister is less than pleased but the deeds are done...)
350LC and an RG250. Both bike models I really like, as you'd expect.
Does anyone have any specific experience in SA In getting such bikes over the line and legally on the road down here?
Being a Pom I have limited experience of the Aussie rules on this stuff and they don't have States and Territories each with different laws over there.
I'll be in touch with the Govt dept down here, but are there any tips or pitfalls to watch out for before I do so?
You may say"what we're you thinking", well to head that off at the pass one bike is from a forum member and the other was frankly an impulse bid on evil bay that I didn't expect to win (but quietly pleased about nonetheless, providing it all works out,)
Registering interstate "barn finds" in South Australia?
Registering interstate "barn finds" in South Australia?
Ex UK, now in Adelaide. LC250/350. DT175. Shed full of sh1t in the vague form of dismantled rusty RD’s and RZ’s.

Yeah, nah, no hope of ever getting them registered in SA. Just leave them in Vic and I'll take care of them. I wont even charge you for my trouble.
Seriously though a compliance plate is the main thing and as long as a receipt from the previous owner accompanies, it should not be an issue outside the normal roadworthy requirements. As long as they are not stolen.

Back in The Old Country you wouldn't dream of buying a vehicle without the V5 registration document, but it's a lot more fast and loose over here, dunno about other states but there is no equivalent to a V5 registration doc down here at all. Freaky.

There are no ownership docs that live with the bike here, just for when its on the road, ie registered. Its a bizarre system, Ive never understood how it works compared to the UK/EU/USA systems where you have a document that relates to the registered keeper that lives with the vehicle, no paperwork means its work to get it and it could be stolen etc.

No, mate, Victoria, but things are very similar across the country. Some roadworthy requirements vary, especially the annual one up north but no documented history required.Fred, you in SA?
There is a national database of stolen and written off vehicles though.
Offer still stands to help you minimise your grief by leaving them here...
