don't chuck any tank. It's all a bit of a pain in the arse. Suzuki have started an old bikes spares arrangement, wish Yam would do the same and make tanks.

well 83-85 tanks are worth more than the 86-on version, but if that 750 tank is nice then its probably not that bad a deal, and.... most $750 bikes need a better tank...
For some bikes it is, but sadly our bikes are getting problematical. A few years back a friend sold an almost nos 83/4/5 tank for just over $200, these days I'd push you over in the rush to buy that, back then Id just paid $400 for a whole bike... which had a crappy tank LOL
Nothing absent minded about my research for a good tank for my bikes, Ive been looking for years and each time i think its too much money they go up again in price the next time round. Id kick myself for it, but im all bruised up already :/
no offence intended Jon, it's just that I've seen rampant inflation spark up before. Glad I bought a good LC tank years ago, wish I'd had the foresight to buy a few more.
As an aside, not sure of the reasons for it but RG 250 tanks seem to survive way better, always seems to be one on offer somewhere, just bought a spare for my RG out of a paranoid "Yamaha" habit, but the one on the bike seems nice and shiny inside!
Maybe Yam just used crappy steel. Their brake calipers have earned a similar reputation in salty climes like the UK.

I agree with BRG don't chuck any tank. Mine looked great until I sanded off the paint and fuel started to leak out! I sandblasted the bugger and dinged in all the holes. Got big soldering iron out and filled all holes. Ran a red white and blue tank liner thru it and a bit of bog and paint and it's held in for years. Still looks a1!
Ive seen a few tanks recently that just had to be chucked, really rusty and badly dented. A shame as like the RSPCA, I would never put a one tank down...
